Where Monsters Lie: CULL-DE-SAC #3 Variant Cover

This is floating around in solicitation and pre-order for online, so I can finally show it off. Colors by Sarah Dyer.

When I read through the PDF of the first issue I was taken with Mr. Wrinkly, I thought he'd fit in with the kind of twisty-stretchy-fleshy bit I've been doing with the "Experiment" index card drawings. I'm not sure if he tears faces off anyone but I felt like drawing stretched and wrinkly faces. And I really liked the design on Mr. Wrinkly.

I'll put together a process post with the initial rough sketch, pencils, inks, and Sarah's colors without the logo, et al. But I saw this was announced and wanted to plug it asap. The only images I've found online so far, including the one on DHC's site, are a little fuzzy, but I have a crisp image that's been on my computer for a while waiting to get posted. Ditto inks, etc.

I enjoyed working on this and was happy to be asked to contribute a variant for the series. Took me a while to lay all those stretchy lines in, most of them went down solidly. I expected to drop more white ink over this than I did. Fun gig.

Here's the solicitation information from the Dark Horse website, pre-ordering. Ships Jan 2025.

And here's the information on the first Where Monsters Lie trade paperback collection, cooked up by Kyle Starks and company. If you dig horror films and books featuring slashers, home invaders, killer clowns and monsters (and whatever Mr. Wrinkly is) this should be right up your blood-soaked alley:
