I haven't posted a signing flyer in a while. I was in Texas for the Houston Comics Fest, a small convention that had a bunch of Dark Horse-affiliated creators as guests. I was there basically to promote Predator: Big Game (which I had penciled, I've written about this out-of-left-field gig before and will again, I'm sure -- it's still the best-selling comic I ever worked on and will ever work on). Bob Schreck being at Dark Horse (at the time) was also key to my doing a few cons that year (the first one he worked out with a promoter took place in Florida. Sarah was still living in Gainesville so she drove over to the convention so we could hang out. I should see if I had that flyer, there's a story about that show and its promoter. Remind me to tell i!).
I did three store appearances while I was in Texas (with Sarah). I'd have to see if I have the other flyers (if there were flyers) for the other signings. The first was in Fort Worth, and I don't remember more than one or two people showing up for it. They may have just been regular customers who came to shop and stopped by the table to buy an issue of Predator. I remember Sarah and I sitting there, talking. The Bedrock signing wasn't bad, at least I remember people being there, I remember signing things and I sold a page to Richard, the owner, who I also remember was very supportive of our House of Fun (and other) work. The third signing was a mall store, and I remember drawing a Milk & Cheese sketch on a ceiling tile for them. I think it was that signing. I don't recall it being a busy signing (I tended to not draw too may folks at signings, to be honest, a signing at Bizarro-Wuxtry being an amazing exception) but the staff was cool and we had fun.
Anyway, I still die inside a little at the phrase "Dorkin did this comic!" . I get that they were trying to let customers know I wasn't a complete nobody small press goof off the street, I had some actual "real" work at Marvel (although Bill and Ted wasn't "real" Marvel work) and DHC, but it's a goofy phrase. And I never liked my last name, so, a lot of that inner cringe is on me.
"Dorkin did this comic! Dorkin did this comics! Run away from this comic! RUN!!!"
P.S. I just noticed they listed me as the "funky creator of Milk & Cheese". My cat put her paws over her eyes when I told her, she looked like Petey from The Little Rascals when she did that. She also spit.
BTW: The Predator art on the flyer was drawn by Chris Warner, who, unlike me, can draw a really good Predator.
