ICYMI: What A Cartoon Podcast on The "Welcome To Eltingville" Adult Swim Pilot
Added 2022-05-18 22:08:20 +0000 UTCThis is apparently a pretty deep dive into the Eltingville animated pilot. production and...legacy? I guess that's an apt word if people are still discussing it two decades after it aired one time at 11 P.M on a Sunday Night before the Adult Swim was paid any attention to (it only aired two or three times afterward, at most, these were scheduled during even later, deader slots, iirc).
I haven't listened to it, but I've meant to drop a link to it here because from the promotion and descriptions it sounds like something fans of the comics/pilot would enjoy. I'm assuming it's a positive (or mostly positive) rundown and it apparently covers the comic series and gets into the fandom/obsession/behavior themes of both projects.
A tweet about the episode mentioned some pretty deep behind-the-scenes knowledge about the production, budget, director and even touched on what was probably the main reason it was destined to fail (budget). Feels like this is an in-depth, cut-above look at the subject.
"This weekโs What A Cartoon podcast sees us discussing the Adult Swim pilot for Welcome To Eltingville!
We cover Evan Dorkinโs great career, the creation of this pilot, and fan culture in the late โ90s compared to now!"
