fun fact: in the scene where Harry starts doing the silly accent and makes Sally play along, the "pecan pie" line was improvised by Crystal and caught Ryan so off-guard that her laugh, "oh no!" and look to the side was her actually looking at Reiner like "wtf" and he just encouraged her to go along with it. it's a totally genuine moment

Harley Jane Kozak who played Hannah played a doctor in Necessary Roughness. She was also in Parenthood. Bruno Kirby is the limo driver in Spinal Tap, and was also in City Slickers with Billy Crystal. You mentioned Carrie Fisher being in Drop Dead.Fred, is that the movie with Phoebe Cates, and Rik Mayall from The Young Ones is her imaginary friend ?? Or am I thinking of something else?? Whatever movie I’m thinking of is hilarious.

The elderly couples in the movie weren't real couples on screen — they were actors reenacting true love stories. Over the years, I have had many female friends. And yes, if a female friend was attractive, I would often think about what it would be like. But I have learned that taking it to the next level can destroy the friendship, though not always. I hadn't seen this in years. I'd forgotten how good it was. When Billy Crystal ran to see her on New Year's Eve, it reminded me of a scene from the movie The Apartment. Great movie if you haven't seen it.

Right you are! They were based on interviews Reiner did with real people.

Apparently Rob Reiner originally intended for Harry and Sally to NOT get together at the end, but changed it when he fell in love with his (future) wife. I'm curious what the original ending would have been like. Happily friends? Bittersweet missed connection? Bitter enemies? However he did it, I'm sure it would have been great.

When this came up, I was surprised that you hadn't already reacted to it, because it is widely considered to be the best romantic comedy made in at least the last 50 years. With New Year's being so recent, you picked the perfect time!
One thing I love about Meg Ryan's acting: When Harry says, "They all WANT to have sex with you," she insists, "They do not," but the expression on her face shows that she is thinking about the guys she is friends with, wondering whether it is true.

The married couples’ stories ARE real! (Although those were actors telling their stories on camera)

Bruno Kirby has had a long career playing many great characters. Yet, every time I see him I think “that’s the limo driver from Spinal Tap!”

Bruno Kirby was in The Godfather II, but you probably remember him best from another movie he made with Billy Crystal, "City Slickers."

A classic. One of the very best. Rob left us with absolute gems.
And lets also note the collaboration with writer Nora Ephron, (later Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail - both of which paired Nora and Meg).
First Nora and now Rob. Both taken from us But oh what we have to remember these filmmakers by.

Hi Coby. Love this one! The couples interspersed throughout the film are indeed actors, but the stories they tell are based on real couples’ stories collected by Nora Ephron.

Wow, what a great movie this is. Guys like this movie too, even if they won’t admit it. I honestly don’t think Rob ever made a bad movie. I just watched The Sure Thing with John Cusack, which is probably Rob’s least known movie, and it’s great too. Spinal Tap is my favorite movie of all time. I used to say it was my favorite movie as a teenager, but I think it actually still is. And of course who doesn’t love The Princess Bride??

One of my favorite films from that era! I have the whole movie memorized so I'll absolutely be watching this one! I bet I could watch your FWA without even queuing up the actual movie!
