BUMP: LAST CHANCE FOR SUGGESTIONS! This will close in a few hours.
Hey everyone! I have an announcement. If you want the short version, skip down to the "Here's What's Happening Basically" section and go from there. Otherwise, read on.
Some of you may have been keeping up with the recent news, but in case you're unaware, let me fill you in. GameJolt, a games hosting platform, recently put a big crackdown on content they consider "adult", as part of their efforts to focus on their younger audience. Some of this affected 18+ adult games, but a lot of other projects were also affected. Most famously, Curtain, a game about abusive relationships, was taken off the site; along with this, other queer creators reported issues as well. And most importantly, in all cases, neither developers nor customers/fans were given any forewarning--games were just removed from the service without any notice whatsoever, just an email after the fact.
Once creators started sharing the removal of their games and discussing the matters more openly on Twitter, GameJolt did respond . . . in mostly an unprofessional manner, with lots of reaction GIFs, short quips, and whatnot. If you want to read more about the matter, Nathalie Lawhead did a substantial writeup of the controversy as it began.
Now to be absolutely clear, GameJolt wanting to focus on a younger audience isn't a problem at all; if that's where their market is, great! But the way they handled this shift with sudden removal of games, the fact that they took out of non-adult projects and many of queer ones specifically, and their devil-may-care responses on Twitter, really pissed people off. They could have taken careful steps to change their website, as it has been used by adult creators for years (and they already have a Mature Content tag implemented, which could have been expanded in its use), but chose to cut developers off instead. Yikes.
And so, people responded to this (including itch.io, who voiced their support for adult content). One of those responses has come in the form of a month-long event called the Sex Games Jam. So that brings us to the announcement at hand. . .
I'm throwing together a small Twine for the Sex Games Jam! It will be free to the public and feature my crowsona, as the picture above implies (the art, by LazyMouse, will be used with permission as the cover [I already got approval from them], and you can see the full image here [NSFW] on my TH). This will be a short sex game, 2nd person POV, Crowsona x Reader. I plan to release it on Friday, January 21.
Be rest assured that the development of this project will not delay other games in any way. This really will be a brief little project, and January's Meals Under The Mistletoe will come out on-time next week. And Objects Of Desire is still on its way; I hope to share a writing preview of that this week!
Here's the thing: if there's something you've been wanting to see me do, comment below and I will consider including it in the game! As this project is on a quicker release schedule and I'm trying to get it done fast, you must comment BY THE END OF TODAY if you want your idea considered.
Please read these rules first:
So yeah, there we go! I look forward to hearing your suggestions & releasing this game on Friday! ^u^ If you have any questions, comment below or message me.
Thank you all for your support! <3 Have a great day!
