__________
Jak and Daxter were running away from the city guards, when Jak’s fate was sealed.
The hero wasn’t looking where he was going, so when he felt his foot hit open air, he cried out in surprise, stumbling forward and falling right into a pit . . . a pit with Dark Eco at the bottom! He screamed and tried to grab hold of the ledge, but missed, and went down free falling.
The guards stood at the edge, watching him fall, then shrugged, turning and walking away. Jak, they reasoned, was surely done for.
Daxter, who had been sitting on Jak’s shoulder, jumped down on the floor of the pit, were safety resided, and watched as the human landed right in the middle of the Dark Eco. “Ooof!” the ottsel said, cringing as he watched the Dark Eco absorb into his friend. “That’s gotta hurt! Jak, you ok?”
“I think so,” Jak replied, standing up from the ground. “I think that I. . .”
He drifted off, then said, “I just felt a weird tingle. Daxter, you didn’t feel that, did you.”
“Nu-uh,” Daxter said, shaking his head. “What’s going on, buddy?”
“I’m not sure,” Jak said, “but I think that the Dark Eco has . . . ah!”
He cried out in surprise as his body suddenly began to decrease in size, shrinking at a rapid pace. The human started out almost six feet in height, but soon he was five feet, then four, then three. All the while his limbs and width got smaller and smaller until, finally, Jak was two feet tall, about a foot shorter than Daxter was.
The ottsel looked down at his friend—and laughed. “Man, you’re short now, aren’t ya Jak?” he asked, chuckling. “I mean, you were always a tiny little guy, but now? You’re even tinier!” And he burst out into a fit of giggles.
“Very funny, Daxter,” the human said flatly. “Look, help me get out of this pit, alright? I have to find a way to reverse this.”
Still smiling, the ottsel looked down at his tiny friend. And it suddenly dawned on Daxter that, perhaps, this was an opportunity here. . .
“What’s with that look?” Jak asked, confused. “Daxter, are you ok?”
The ottsel didn’t answer. Instead, his stomach let out a hungry gurgle, and Daxter began to drool, just a bit. . . He licked his lips and stared down at Jak with a smile. This was going to be good.
“You know, buddy,” Daxter finally said, “I’m not fine. In fact, all these years, I’ve always dreamed of being the hero, you know? But /you’re/ always taking /allllll/ the credit.”
“That’s not true!” Jak insisted.
“Oh yeah?” the ottsel replied. “Well, how come I don’t get any of the glory, huh? I could be surrounded by beautiful ladies right now, but all I get is work. Well you know what, buddy? I want some of that glory.” He licked his lips. “And I know just how to get it.”
“What?” Jak asked. He was starting to see the hungry look in Jak’s eyes, and he wasn’t liking that one bit. . . “Come on, Daxter, talk sense. This is crazy!”
“Is it?” the ottsel asked flatly. A wide grin came onto his face. “Because I’m starting to get hungry. . . And I do believe human is on the menu, /buddy/.”
Before Jak could move, Daxter reached down and snatched up the shrunken man, pinning his arms to his sides. “Let me go!” the human shouted, starting to panic now. He thrashed this way and that in the ottsel’s grip, but Daxter didn’t release him. “T-This isn’t funny!”
“That’s because I’m not joking for once. . . Surprise!” Daxter shouted. He opened his mouth, revealing a bulging tongue to his prey. “Let’s give my food a taste. I’m sure you’re going to be delicious.”
The ottsel brought Jak up to his mouth and licked the human’s head. Jak’s view was covered by that big tongue, and it soaked his face as it lapped him up, bit by bit. “Mmm, you’re tasty, Jak!” Daxter teased his prey, continuing to taste his food. “Almost good enough to eat!”
“C-Come on, Daxter!” Jak said, trying to speak between the licks. “Y-You can’t really be serious about eating me . . . can you?”
“What can I say, I want the glory,” the ottsel said, his tongue retreating back into his mouth. “And now that I know how to get it, I’m gonna go for it. Toodles!”
He opened his mouth nice and wide, giving Jak a good look inside of Daxter’s maw: flat teeth were lined up inside and dripping with drool; between them, the tongue, wet with spit, sat quietly. And behind the tongue was a looming throat, which lead to . . . well, Jak didn’t want to think about that.
The human’s struggles renewed. He writhed this way and that in the ottsel’s grip, trying desperately to get free. But no matter what he did, Daxter’s grip remained firm.
The predator lifted Jak up to his maw, and shoved the human’s head inside.
Immediately Jak was introduced to the atmosphere of Daxter’s hungry maw, which licked and sucked at his head like it was a lollipop, not stopping even as the human squirmed in discomfort and panic. He tried to pull his head out, but the ottsel sealed his lips around his prey—which meant Jak was trapped inside.
He tried to open his mouth to tell Daxter to stop, but every time he tried to, Daxter’s tongue would slap across his face and shut him up. He couldn’t get the words out because of that, and so he was helpless as he was tasted like candy.
“Mmm, you’re tasty, Jak!” said Daxter, the words rumbling around the mouth. “I can’t wait to have you in my stomach!”
“Y-You’re stomach?!” Jak finally managed to shout. “No, please, anything but th—AH!”
A /gulp/ sucked the human down the ottsel’s esophagus, quieting his cries immediately. A bulge formed in Daxter’s throat as he swallowed the human down, one that could be seen from the outside. The ottsel smiled, patted it, and continued his feast.
Inside the esophagus, Jak tried to lift his head up and out, but he found that the cylindrical tunnel around him was too tight—he couldn’t move. He couldn’t even open his mouth to scream. He was truly trapped in here. . .
And so more and more of Jak was gulped down, sucked and licked by Daxter and sent down the throat, bit by bit. As more of the prey was eaten, the throat bulge only got bigger. Trying to escape, Jak kicked with his legs and thrashed with his arms, but his arms were soon gulped down, and his kicks didn’t seem to be doing anything! Was there any possible way out of this mess?
Soon, he reached his destination. Jak was traveling down the throat when he popped into an open space, one he could actually breathe in. He let out a sigh of relief—but then he sniffed the air, and smelled acid. And he could hear growls around him.
“AHHHH!” Daxter could hear his prey shouting inside of him. “I’M IN THE STOMACH! SOMEBODY HELP ME!”
“Sorry buddy, no one can hear ya!” said the ottsel, continuing to suck in more of the human. “Nobody at all. . . He he!”
He gulped down more of his prey, and piled up more and more of Jak inside of the stomach. It stretched out the gut, increasing its size and making a visible bulge. Finally, only Jak’s kicking feet were left.
Daxter teased the human for a bit, lifting them up as if he was going to spit him out. But then, he swallowed, and sent them down with the rest of his food.
And just like that, it was done. All of Jak was swallowed and eaten. The throat bulge stretched out one last time, then disappeared as all of Jak piled up in the stomach below.
Daxter sighed and patted his distended belly, a tight round gut that currently housed a thrashing Jak. “Let me out!” the human cried out, panic in his voice. If there were witnesses, they would have seen Jak’s curled-up outline visible in Daxter’s belly, with Daxter’s navel pinned to an outline of Jak’s face.
“Not a chance,” said the ottsel, shrugging and rubbing his stomach. “Sorry buddy. You’re my food now. Buh-bye!”
“No!” screamed Jak, thrashing about inside of the stomach. There had to be a way out of this . . . there had to be! If he could only think of some way to escape. . .
“You’re not getting out of there,” teased Daxter, drawing circles around his navel and prodding it. “You’re doomed to just be my food now, and I’m gonna take credit for all of our daring exploits! I’m gonna be a hero! Finally. Look ma, I made it!”
“This isn’t funny, Daxter!” shouted Jak.
“And like I said before, that’s because this isn’t a joke—though it is pretty funny, you getting eaten and all,” said the ottsel, chuckling. “To think the great and mighty Jak is now reduced to nothing but food . . . that’s pretty funny, isn’t it?”
“NO!” the human screamed. “Stop it!”
At that moment, the gut let out another loud gurgle, and Jak froze. “W-What was that?” he asked.
“Looks like digestion is setting in,” said Daxter, letting out a /buuuuurp/. “You’re gonna be broken down into itty bitty ottsel nutrients!”
“No, anything but that!” the human begged. He could feel liquids starting to gather around him, pooling from the walls and landing on the floor. And they really stung, too. . . He resisted the urge to cry out in pain, not wanting to make Daxter feel satisfied.
“Anything, huh?” asked the ottsel.
“Anything,” promised Jak, seeing his opportunity. “Please, what do you want, Daxter? I can do anything for you if you just let me out.”
The ottsel thought for a moment, then shrugged. “Nah! I just want food. And you’re perfect for that.”
Inside, the stomach acids continued to drip down onto Jak, and now he couldn’t hold back his pained cries. Smirking in satisfaction, Daxter sat down against the walls of the pit and rubbed his big belly. “I’m gonna take /all/ the credit, Jak,” he told his former friend. “At last, I’m going to be the real hero. And once I’m done digesting you, nobody will even remember who you are. You’re going to be nothing but my meal—maybe that’s all you ever were.”
Jak couldn’t even respond—he was too busy trying to avoid the liquid falling all around him, but it was impossible to dodge it all. The stomach juices pooling at the bottom were starting to rise, and they stung like crazy. And droplets oozed from the walls and ceiling of Daxter’s hungry gut, which gurgled and growled, squeezing its prey. . . Was he truly doomed? Maybe this was it. . .
More and more stomach juices dripped from the ceiling, filling up the pit. Finally, Jak couldn’t take it anymore, and he passed out.
“Finally!” Daxter exclaimed, feeling the human fall unconscious inside of him. “I thought he’d never shut up!” Inside, digestion sped up around Jak, and the belly completely filled up with juices, which broke down his flesh and bone easily. Soon, nothing was left of the hero but mush.
Letting out another burp, Daxter squashed his gut flat with his paws, squeezing his stomach in. When he was done, it was like he was back to his normal weight—as if nothing had ever happened. His empty stomach let out a longing groan.
“Some hero you turned out to be, Jak,” the ottsel said, smirking. “Now /I’m/ the hero.”
And so he hopped out of the pit, and left the Dark Eco behind.
