Hiya, Traxians!
This week I would love to get your help with something very special (and cool!).
The folks at Scener have Beta support for the RiffTrax.com website ready to test! And I think the perfect way to take it for a test drive would be to have a watch party with our upcoming release for this Friday, Savage. NOTE: This one is not kid-friendly; it's rated R for nudity and violence. I'll update this post when it's available (and the link to it above works as expected).
Glad you asked!
1. First, you'll need to install the Scener Beta extension. Don't worry; the Beta version will not interfere with Production, and the two can live within your browser simultaneously. The Beta extension only works with the Scener Beta site. HOWEVER, if you do experience any weirdness with both installed, you may want to uninstall the Production extension temporarily. You can always reinstall it later.
2. When Savage is released on Friday, you'll need to buy it. Use the coupon code WAITWAIT for 15% off. Side note: Scener can detect not just RiffTrax product ownership, but also whether a riff is available to you as part of a Friends subscription!
(Yes, the coupon code is in reference to the NPR show "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!" because the co-writer of Savage was none other than Peter Sagal*! It turns out that the movie doesn't totally resemble his original work, which tends to happen in Hollywood... Please don't give it out; it's yours for helping us beta test this cool new feature.)
3. At 3:30pm Pacific / 6:30pm Eastern join us at this Scener Beta room. Your existing user account credentials will all work as usual.
This has been a long time in the making, and I'm super excited to start what could be a fun, new tradition for watching brand-new RiffTrax releases. And you don't even need me to do it! You can use the Scener Beta any time and set up your own watch parties!
See all you Scenesters soon!
- Erik (and Peter)
* Bill conducted a special interview with Peter too, since they're pals, where they talked about Peter's journey as a writer and what it was like to work on the movie. We'll post that soon!
EDIT Post-show:
That was a lot of fun! Thanks for helping us test things out. It went pretty smoothly for the most part, and we'll be sure to bring your feedback to Scener so they can continue to improve the system. See you next time!
