Talkin' RiffTrax: ROBO VAMPIRE

Hey all, Mike Nelson.

Kevin, Bill and I discuss the complexities of Robo Vampire. And there's only way to stave off utter madness while doing it and that's to sign hundreds of terrifying photos of yourself.

I can't believe a plotless, Asian-involved Rifftrax movie is not also a Harry Alan Towers movie.

Katharine Mason

My favorite character was the Asian Groucho Marx who apparently commands the "vampires".

John Chadwick

The drug dealer looks more like Don Novello.

I watched it this morning. It made no damn sense. NO DAMN SENSE. I kinda love it.

Populuxe

uuuuuugh! aaaaaaaa!...sorry, thought I'd pitch in here.

Paul Rabogliatti

He also *loved* his hopping Chinese vampires. They pop up in a bunch of his movies. Since Godfrey Ho used so many pseudonyms when directly, I didn't realize it was the same guy, but as soon as the cheesy fireworks-shooting randomly-powered bouncing vampires showed up, I knew this had to be the same guy who made Revenge of the Drunken Master, Crocodile Fury, and Ninja: The Violent Sorcerer. The hopping vampires also show up in this movie's two sequels; Robo Vampire 2: Devil's Dynamite, and Robo Vampire 3: Counter Destroy, though that's where their similarity to Robo Vampire 1 ends. The "Robo" in those movies is more akin to Prince of Space, though with a similarly low budget rip-off RoboCop mask, who wears silver lycra and actually jumps around a bit. I've seen a number of his more straight-forward kung-fu flicks like Raiders of Buddhist Kung-Fu and and Shaolin Drunk Monkey, and while they're equally nonsensical and obviously stitched together from other films with character that are never together in the same scene, they aren't anywhere near as insane as his horror/kaiju pictures like the Robo Vampire films and Thunder of the Gigantic Serpent (which is another film prime for riffing).

Oh hey Mike, I never noticed Bill is a lefty. You of course, are a righty, as is proper. Let's gang up on Bill. PS: I streamed the movie last night and was baffled. What was with the giant post it notes on the forehead thing? I wanted to know more about that!

Linnea Boyev

Godfrey Ho was the director, and his approach to filmmaking was to film a little footage, then take two or more unrelated movies he had the rights to, insert their scenes, and re-dub everything to make one full movie. It's gloriously incoherent every time. I'd love to see more of these movies. I'd also love to see more Italian horror - even good Fulci or Argento films could make good riffing fodder.

Jered Heeschen

I noticed none of the bunny hoppers sparkled.

Paul Lenoue

Mike's winning the signing war.
