December 2023 Exclusive Poll Winner - Finding Forgiveness - Harry/Daphne

AN: Hey, this is a story I pla

Comments

Yeah, this story just kinda spiraled out of control, lol. Whenever I write Exclusive or Monthly Poll Winners, I aim for the word count to be anywhere between 3-5k words. However, I'm terrible at keeping to that. My shortest Exclusive Poll Winner is just over 4k words, and this story is my longest at 15,386 words. One of my biggest issues is that I get wrapped up in ideas that are bigger than the medium they're suited for. Stories like this would've been better told as a multi-part story. Unfortunately, as this is just something fun I do outside of my normal working hours, I rarely have the luxury of time to plan stories out ahead of time. I just write and the words flow and I go where they will. I do wish I would've taken more time to flesh out Harry's redemption at the end though. I adore stories where characters make the wrong or bad decisions and have to come to terms with that and find a better way forward. Glad you enjoyed the story!

First, I want to unambiguously applaud you for trying something quite different. I thoroughly enjoyed the twisted take on Daphne. The only real problem I had is that Harry never really earned the relationship. We were told about his efforts rather than shown. That said, to do that that would change this from a one-shot to a novel. That’s how much of an idiot this version of Harry has been. Still, I have to state that I enjoyed this.

I did push his skewed perceptions to the extreme, but I wouldn't necessarily call it very OOC for Harry. Throughout the series, he's always very sure in how he sees things (Snape being the one going after the philosopher's stone, Sirius being the one to kill his parents, his visions of Sirius in the Ministry being true, Draco being a Death Eater, etc.). He's correct in his perceptions more often than not, but I still see him as being a very judgy person. He also tends to be stuck in his perceptions until someone unveils some new information that causes him to change his perceptions. I imagine it was a bit hard to enjoy reading him when he had his head stuck up his arse though, lol. It annoyed me a bit when I was writing too, but I felt like trying something a bit different where I played up one of his biggest flaws I noticed when I read the series.

Wasn't a fan of how you characterized Harry here, you essentially turned him into Ron/Dursley's hybrid having an opinion formed at the age of 13 and never even trying to get to know her or talk to her without a crazy amount of bias and assuming the worst possible thing. The end was good but its hard to really enjoy such an OOC negative Harry Thanks for the one-shot regardless! Cheers

I feel so bad for Daphne in this story 🥺. Though it is a fresh take on the pairing. One where Harry is the bad person through and Daphne is just misunderstood by him.
