Divide and Conquer, Chapter 7: The Heartlands

Third Moon, 101 AD (1 BC)

Comments

Glad you liked it! Thanks for informing me! Will correct it!

Tertius711

Nice chapter. I think Rhaenys' birthday is wrong. It says 74 AD but should probably be 76 based on ages. Argon is 75 AD.

Xisaro

I couldn’t resist the reference and neither could Aegon lel. Basilisks in Asoiaf are real different though lel. Would be a funny meme tho. Yes. Some of Aegon’s kids will most definitely take part. This chapter already sets that up.

Tertius711

Chamber of Secrets, eh? I wonder whether at some point SI will send an expedition to get a living basilisk to protect it ;) Given that Conquest is stretched for many years, will we see SI's kids taking part in some battles/sieges/negotiations?

Maciek

He dislikes that Alyssa Velaryon diluted the purity of the bloodline cause of her mother Alarra Massey. He also has low opinions on Alyssa as a person given how stupid she is but since she's been butterflied away it's not that important lol. As for building more advanced ships, this story isn't navally focused like High Tide is so still considering. He will most definitely have a navy structure though, I'm drafting plans for a comprehensive appendix like in High Tide. Next week most likely. By Sept 13th latest.

Tertius711

Glad you think so! Yeah drawing a lot of IRL inspirations. Sun King's France, Tokugawa Japan, Cyrus the Great's Persia, William the Conqueror's England, lots of great tried and tested methods to use.

Tertius711

Possibly. But that took generations to arise.

Tertius711

Does Aegon have a problem with Alyssa Velaryon? And is Aegon building more advance ships like galleons and fluyts and will he have a navy structure like admiral, commander etc? Will the next chapter come this weekend or next week?

TyrantGod

Nice chapter and very valid ideas about government' system. France' absolutism was build by army and consolidation of vassals in one place, great strategy from Aegon. Same with Japanese practices, read some research about Sengoku age and it's true these practices helped Tokugawa build the first fully centralized government in all Japan. Thanks for interesting book, will be waiting for next chapters 👍

Arcturus

Or could be like Karstarks, who took half of name from castle

Arcturus

Depends how concentrated the Ward is tbf because if the Wardens have a lot of vassals it can undermine them too.

Tertius711

Good question for the mines in the Westerlands! Do stay tuned to see how the mines are administrated, if they are kept under royal control or given out!

Tertius711

The Velaryons are getting two Wardens but in separate lines so they'd functionally be like the Vances or Flints within a few generations. And yeah deffo better than becoming dragonlords.

Tertius711

I had the same question! The wardens in the west WILL be wealthier and eventually if not immediately probably more powerful. Excited to see how he handles it

SteveH

Nearly every home in the Westerlands is home to a gold mine; how will you manage these mines? Will you keep them under royal control or have other plans? Because of their wealth, the wardens there are undoubtedly wealthier than the Riverlords.

NobleBoy24 .

Velaryons are getting two wardens? Ouuuffft prefer that then them becoming dragon riders.

NobleBoy24 .

His full name is Jacaerys Velaryon. His banner will most likely change but there's no real reason why he has to take a new name as Warden of the Iron Islands.

Tertius711

Will he take a new name upon become warden of the iron islands?

Hedincool

Since jaceaerys is aegons cousin, I assume his full name if Jaceaerys velaryon?
