Part 95: Work in Progress #4

To our huge surprise, the first art installation we found in the place was made of a big latex sheet!

The installation, named "FARMERS FETISH" and created by Santtu Laine, was, simply put, a latex sheet set upon a pile of dirt, surrounded by "sensual" photos of the same sheet.

I don't understand modern art that much, but I do understand the underlying factors of latex sheeting being seen as a fetish accessory - but this point will absolutely be missed by the people seeing the exhibition, as they will see it just a piece of tarp or something.

Nothing explains the connotation between latex and fetish.

Maybe this is an inside joke of some sort.

It can work, though. How do you feel?

Are we sure there's just dirt under that sheet? ;) To be honest, I'm actually inclinded to say 'no' to that question myself... meh, I don't understand modern art either :D

I maybe get a glimpse of the meaning by the artist that probably the dirt is the real fetish and the obvious object of fetishism (latex) is hiding it underneath. Nevertheless to be truly honest I don't like the connotation very much. Because latex in all it's form is so much more than mere fetish and therefore I dislike it to see it reduced as such by the title of the installation. Btw. my intention of being one of your patreons is just the opposite. I want to support your idea of dragging latex out in the open (like you pull a shy person out to proof there is nothing to be afraid of and protect it from harm out there) to show it as a normal material that can be appreciated by looking how light and shadow are reflected by it's surface, feeling it caressing the skin as it itensify the touch when it hugs and forms your body, hear the rustling of the sheets as they glide over each other and even smelling or tasting the intoxicating aroma like opening a freshly printed book. It stimulates the senses in a wide variety of ways like few other materials I know (leather for example). I understand why people adore it to the point of fetishism and it's alright that way. It's just not all that is to it.
