Interesting tidbit about progress.

I got to thinking a bit about measuring progress, and how often times you'll see a release of a VN coupled with some statistics like "this updates adds X images, Y words", and even though those numbers are largely useless when determining how worth-while an update is, it got me thinking about seeing if I could figure out how substantial this update is.

A little bit about my release process first: all the images in development are png files, and when I'm just about ready to release, I convert them into .webp images to reduce size, but I still keep the .png files around just in case I need to edit something (I want do my edits in the.pngs and then convert those again, to prevent quality attrition over multiple edits).

Also, just to point this out, an image isn't a single render, as I cut them up sometimes to be assembled again in code with transforms. If I'd have to take a guess, I'd say there's about 2 render made for every 3 images in the project, but that's just a gut feeling.

So, from my last release (including chapters 1 to 4), I've got exactly 3.800 webp images in my images folder in the renpy project. I've also got 4.845 png files in that same folder as of today. That means that as of today, 1.045 images where added for chapter 5, which is 95 more images than the average for the previous chapters. By the purest of coincidences,  that's exactly 10% more.

And we still have a ways to go for  chapter 5.

On a side note, I'm kinda baffled by how clean those numbers came out, prompting me to run them again twice just to make sure I didn't make a mistake.

I wouldn't even say that each update can be viewed so isolated. It's a building block. Each new content also becomes a basis for the following and a great influence the finished game. I don't expect every update to have this or that, like a long journey I can look back on. At the end each step will have a deeper more connected meaning, which will form my own building block I can build on.
