On release schedules...
Added 2019-05-18 07:12:16 +0000 UTCThe question "when's the next release" seems to pop up quite a bit, and it's nice because it means you enjoyed it and want more. Because of that,I think I owe you an answer.
I don't want to go for a monthly release, or anything set in stone, for the following reason:
Although nothing focuses the mind like a deadline rushing up, I don't really want commit to a release timeline and find myself choosing between delivering on schedule and delivering something polished.
A time boxed release cadence works great when you're implementing lots of systems, like in a dating sim, or an RPG, and it allows you to iterate on it, but it doesn't work so well when the delivery is a chapter in a story. A chapter has an arc during which something is accomplished. Cutting that off at some random point defeats that.
Well, how do I keep focus and prevent myself from procrastinating then? In my case, I outline the "thing" the chapter is supposed to accomplish, and block out scenes based on that. That gives me a pretty much set road-map to plug away on, and the fun new bits and ideas for the next chapter go into a list of notes for later reference until I finish the current chapter.
So, when am I going to release though? Fair enough. Well, I can do a couple of scenes a day that don't require new renders. Or one a day if it does require a few new renders. And a scene that requires an entire new set can take several days to a week. One in-game day takes about 5 to 10 scenes, and the next chapter will span about a week in-game. As you can tell, a next release surely won't be by the end of this month.
But, I'll try and keep you posted with little tidbits and updates as work progresses, so you'll know where we're at and when a release is getting imminent.

I think that a monthly charge makes more sense. Just because there is no release, doesn't mean that nobody works on it at that time.
