Classroom Changes Umako Chapter 5 - 1

The outing with Yukio did little to resolve Umako’s dilemma. If anything, it left her even more confused. Something about being with him felt natural. It might have been his scent, which was enticingly non-human but not in any way barnyard. There was a muskiness to him that aroused her on a subconscious level. Or perhaps it was the easy way their bodies moved together, not unlike horses travelling in a herd. It was exhilarating to gallop with someone at her side, matching her every move.

In contrast, she recalled the day in the park with Hiroto. The poor boy was sweating and winded from trying to keep up with what she considered a leisurely stroll. With humans, she was constantly self-conscious about how much larger she was and always worried about knocking them down or stepping on them. The incident at the train station still nagged at her.

On the other hand, she couldn’t stop thinking about Hiroto. They had been close friends for many years, and as they had reached puberty, she had started to think of him in a sexual context. When she was human, she had imagined him as strong and virile, a powerful man to cherish and protect her. Now, he seemed almost comical in comparison to her. She couldn’t shake the image she had seen in an old cartoon, where the chihuahua bounced around a bulldog, eager to impress it but insignificant in the larger dog's eyes.

In her erotic daydreams, she had no trouble picturing Yukio as a stud, mounting her and filling her with his manhood. When she thought about Hiroto, she imagined him scrambling around behind her, unable to reach her pussy, perhaps finding a stool to stand on. If he managed to connect, would she even be able to feel him in her? What about his needs? Could he be satisfied with what she could give him, or would he long for a partner with compatibly sized genitals?

Umako was mature enough to know there was a lot more to a relationship than penetrative sex, though. She couldn’t imagine a long-term relationship without a physical component, but that was just one part of what a couple needed to share. She had many common interests with Hiroto but not so much with Yukio.

Yukio was a baseball fan; he could name all the team players and recite their statistics. Umako found baseball boring. She enjoyed watching quiz shows with Hiroto. They would compete to be the first to shout out the answer. Yukio enjoyed playing violent video games, where a quick reaction to the situation was paramount. Umako and Hiroto preferred puzzle-solving adventures, where the key to success was figuring out obscure clues. Sometimes, they would spend hours discussing what their next move should be. In the school’s social hierarchy, Yukio was undoubtedly one of the jocks, while Umako and Hiroto counted themselves amount the nerds.

Some may have thought having two suitors would be a luxury, but for Umako, it led to restless nights.

—-----------------------------------------------------

Umako arrived at school the next day to find the student body abuzz. Everyone seemed intent on reading something on their phones, most with concerned looks.

Umako saw Aya in the hallway and asked her what was so interesting.

“Haven’t you heard the news this morning,” Aya asked her in disbelief.

“No,” Umako admitted, “I forgot to charge my phone last night, so I’ve had it turned off to save the battery for emergencies.”

“Here, take a look,” Aya said, handing her phone to Umako.

The screen on the phone showed a picture, apparently from a security camera, of hundreds of people lying on the ground, obviously dead, judging by the spears of pure light that impaled them. Hovering over them was a winged woman. Her face was not evident in the photo, but Umako thought those wings looked precisely like the ones Serass had shown when she appeared in Umako’s bedroom window.

“Oh my god,” Umako gasped, “What happened?”

“Well,” Aya responded, “I’m sure you’ve heard about what’s been happening in Texas.”

“Sure,” Umako said. The government of the ‘Holy Christian Republic of Texas’ had declared that demi-humans were an abomination before the Lord. A popular televangelist had been telling his followers that the Event was the start of the Rapture. According to him, all the damned souls had been turned into monsters so the righteous could readily identify them, and the faithful were charged with the final task of exterminating the beasts. Only when the creatures were gone could the followers of the one true god assume their place in heaven.  The government, in trouble over its mishandling of the economy, was happy to use him as a distraction and go along with the persecution of the ‘monsters’. However, they were not yet ready to condone their extermination. They had created detention camps where the demi-humans would be held until they could decide what to do with them.

“So,” Aya continued, “Last night, a large crowd had gathered outside one of the detention camps. They were all armed and demanded the prisoners be brought out so they could deal with them the way their god intended. They shouted that they didn’t want their tax dollars being wasted on feeding and housing the abominations. Just as they were storming the camp gates, a creature the media call a “dark angel” appeared above the crowd. She gestured, and everyone in the crowd fell dead. They say a bolt of lightning materialized in each of them simultaneously, instantly killing them.”

“That’s horrible,” Umako said, “Though I can’t feel much sympathy for people who wanted to kill others just for being like us.”

“There’s more,” Aya added, “This morning, the televangelist and all the politicians who supported the legislation had something happen to them. They are still conscious and can respond to simple commands, but it’s like they’re some kind of zombie. Some are saying their souls have been taken.”

“Hmph,” Umako said, “Sounds like their souls weren’t anything to be proud of anyway.”

“Well, whatever happened, it was enough to convince the remaining politicians to repeal the law and release all the detainees,” Aya said.

Umako saw Serass coming down the hall with a massive smirk on her face, apparently enjoying the stir the events of the previous night had caused. She was going to ask Serass what she knew about it, but Serass held her finger to her lips in a “shush” gesture and gave Umako a wink, then carried on without saying a word.
