According to my progress sheet, I'm 10% done with the pencils for the graphic novel I'm drawing! That's a lot, for me.
In the past few months I've been fiddling about with what tools I want to keep around for the most efficient process, and I think I've narrowed it down to a good bunch.
Let's take a look!

I've attached this image to the post just in case Patreon compresses it into illegibility.
These are the tools I currently feel most comfortable using after a bit of my own research and testing over time. Some of them I bought new for the comics projects I'm working on right now, and some of them are from college. I hope this is a fun thing to check out, and I'll be making a few of these throughout the next year if things change significantly, or if I find new tools.
Seen here in clockwise order:
- drafting brush (via eBay!)
- KUM Automatic Brake Long Point 2 Step Pencil Sharpener (Red)
- Staedtler Non-Photo Pencil (Blue)
- Uni Kuru Toga Advance 0.5mm Mechanical Pencil (Spirited Away ver)
- Blackwing Matte Pencil in Abilitations Abiligrip
- General's Factis Mechanical Eraser
- Sakura Sumo Grip Retractable Eraser
- LINEX 330M T-square Ruler
- DELETER Comic Paper, B4
NOT PICTURED: Pentel Hi-Polymer Eraser (white), Epson Workforce WF-7720 (for scanning)
I hope to be able to show these tools in action one day! It's not much different to how anyone else uses a pencil and eraser, but I think it might be interesting to see process work. Does anyone else watch Urasawa's Manben? If you haven't already, you should seek it out. I love crap like that!
