iOS app progress report: Profiles

We're pretty far ahead with the UX design part of the app. All the screens that were intended to be in the MVP version have been designed (and I will be showing more in separate posts over time). This is what the profiles will look like.

Here's where the implementation is at:

Done:

In progress:

Not started:

And yes, local/federated feeds are not anywhere on this list. Though a progress report on profiles might not be the best place to talk about that decision, the short of it is that as a vehicle for onboarding new users, those feeds have too many downsides (confusion with geographical locality, alienation through unfamiliar languages, way too low signal-to-noise ratio, not to mention the risk of encountering obscene content -- all feedback I've received from new users over the years) and so I have opted to deliberately not include them in the MVP version.

Also, I know Twitter has something when you start using an account that says “Hey, wanna see only tweets in languages you know?”. Mastodon has this setting under the Account settings, but I think it would be pretty cool to see all those things right when you add a new account.

Don’t you think it would be better to rename the “Local/Federated” to something like “Instance/Global”? I know the fediverse by itself is something related to “federation” but people may be more familiarized by changing the name to instance & global.
