Patrick Nagel!
It's funny- I only just recently learned the man's name, but I've been fascinated with Patrick Nagel's art for most of my life. See, when I was a little kid, there was a beauty/hair salon near my house that had these big Patrick Nagel posters in the window and I was just mesmerized by them every time we drove by. The style really stuck with me, catching my eye any time it popped up here and there, particularly as 80's nostalgia grew popular; but in the last few months, I've been taking a more serious look at it. I suppose it was only a matter of time before I had to try drawing something like it.
Well, my birthday is on Saturday, and I always like to draw something self-indulgent for my birthday (Well, even more self-indulgent than usual, I guess.) and drawing the women of Ghostbusters in Nagel's style fit that bill perfectly. I have to admit, it was a greater challenge than I expected. The most difficult part was the line work. Nigel's lines are quite fine, whereas mine are, for the most part, decidedly thick, and let me tell you, I hide a lot of sins in my big chonker lines. I almost gave up on both drawings a couple times, but things really started to come together when I starting putting color down. In the end, I'm fairly satisfied with how they both turned out. It's definitely a look I'd like to tinker around with more in the future.
