Winter Paradise
Added 2022-03-14 17:00:06 +0000 UTCSo I took another painting class. The last couple of these were a little rocky, but this one ended up being a LOT of fun. Not to say it didn't have some challenges. For those of you not in the know, there is a sharp distinction between Bob Ross the man, and Bob Ross Inc the company. Short version, Bob Ross Inc the company is actually surprisingly shady for a whole number of reasons, but the applicable part of to this story is the quality of it's products, or the lack thereof. It's more or less been downhill ever since Bob Ross himself passed away, to the point where it's actually some of the worst stuff you can work with. My brush was shedding bristles like crazy and, worst of all, the base coat of "liquid white" dried out unusually fast. Liquid white is the whole foundation of this technique, which is literally called "Wet on Wet" and is how you're able to blend things and smooth stuff out. Blending the sky was way harder than it should have been, I didn't get to fade out the base of the mountain as much as I would have liked, and I'm lucky the reflections in the water aren't a holy mess.
The thing is, though, it's not a holy mess. Even when the materials were failing me, so much so that even our instructor was talking openly about how crappy this latest shipment of supplies were, I was still able to make something that I'm really quite happy with. It's hard not to be proud of that!
