Boy, did I bite off a lot with this one. Funnily enough, I kinda had the opposite problem with this than I had with the "80's Mini-Monster" drawing. Whereas with that I struggled to come up with a basic idea/composition, with the Orion Slave Girl I knew almost IMMEDIATELY what I wanted to do, but then I had a hell of a time getting the image in my head to come out of my hand and onto the screen. See, I knew right away I wanted to do something in the style of the late great Frank Frazeta. It just seemed like a perfect fit for the subject. The thing is, aside from the obvious science-fantasy trappings of strong men defending scantily clad women from bug-eyed aliens, Frazeta has a very distinctive style. Very painterly, heavy shadows, moody color palette. In short, almost the complete opposite from my style! lol I quickly realized that my style wasn't quite compatible with what I was going for, but it still set me down the rabbit hole of similar art, and I was eventually able to work out my own take on the genre. It still ended up being a fair bit of work. To be wearing so little, what clothes/jewelry she IS wearing took the most time and effort. It was a lot of fun, but also quite time consuming. In the end, though, I'm quite happy with how it all turned out. It's really got me wanting to do some more fantasy-style stuff, maybe even some original concepts. We'll see if I ever find the time.
