Opinion Warranted

Hello, everyone!

I come again with a request for help. I'm sorry the two posts this month so far are about me wanting your opinion, but more (fun) posts are coming! Including a progress report on Friday ♡

But, for now, I'd really appreciate your help with this. It's hard for me sometimes to judge a chapter's 'practical' length — of which I mean, the playable length — because I see everything. Every possible path, conversation, and version. I said I'd decided to split the original second half of Chapter 3 into Chapter 4 because 3 was becoming too big, and its name wasn't making sense.

But... is it? From the moment you leave Mist's room to the moment you meet Rafael at twilight, was it too long? Would you like to be given a "pause" in the form of a chapter break or keep going?

I fear, like this, that Chapter 3 will simply become a "filer" chapter, especially if you don't go meet Vallen.

I kinda want to keep to my original number of chapters, but I also know the feeling of a chapter dragging on and on for much too long.

So, I'd like to hear your thoughts! A fresh set of eyes and all that 😋

Yes I saw somewhere on Patreon she said GR is supposed to be a three book series I’m like are you sure? 🥺 maybe it needs to be four or five 😂

This!!! 👆when I got to the end of Book 1 I was like "What?! This was it?! It can't be! I want mooooore!!!" I hadn't even realised I'd played the entire book way past midnight! I will honestly won't even notice the length of any of the chapters but no matter how long the second book is, I will still think it was short bc I get so immersed into the story that I can't get enough 😫😭 Ana's writing is a blessing and a curse! It's incredibly good but you get addicted to it😭 I hope she never stops writing and gifting us with her talent 😭

That's a great suggestion. I'll write the rest as chapter 3, finish chapter 4 and then ask you again for your thoughts

The conversation with Mist is part of Chapter 2. Chapter 3 starts when you leave his office. It seems this is a common assumption which means the proper Chapter 3 must not look too big after all! Thank you for your feedback ❤️

Tbh I think it's best to wait until next few chapters are done and then see if chapter 3 and 4 should be one or not. Due to variants in the chapter it can be short, which isnt necessarily a bad thing. It can also give player a lot of information based on choices they make - info from Mist, convos after Mist conversation, Vallen interactions I think right now it's hard to judge because we lack the next ccouple of chapter. When they are released it will be easier to gauge how the story progresses.

When I’m reading something this good I don’t even notice if/when there is chapter breaks 😂

I think the length of chapter 3 highly depends on your routes, my first playthrough I gave Mist the gauntlet and asked for the spear (lol), so there wasn’t even really a long convo with him. Florian also did not meet Vallen, so I think my first playthrough was the shortest possible chapter 3 experience and it STILL didn’t feel “too short,” yes, shorter than the previous chapter but not in such a way that I was like “dang that’s it?” In my second playthrough my character made the deal with Cynthia & had the gauntlet, so she asked Mist questions (extending their meeting) AND she met Vallen, so possibly the longest version of CH3, but even after both playthroughs I never thought they were vastly different in length OR that I was missing out on anything! I do agree with others saying asking again later to make more accurate comparisons, but as it stands I like chapter 3 as it is

I agree to maybe asking again after chapter 6. As of right now it doesn't feel like it's dragging, even when rereading multiple times.

And, for what it's worth, I barely noticed that there _were_ chapters in the first game. I was so engrossed in the story that I flicked through every chapter page almost before I could register it, because I needed to know what happened next.

Even though I did vote to keep the two chapters together, I think you might want to hold off and ask this question again after chapters 5 and 6 have come out at least. There's a big difference between "this seems like too short of a time to be in this chapter," and "this seems like too short a time before I'm forced to stop playing this game that I'm very excited to finish." A 95% bias toward longer chapters might be skewed by this Patreon experience in this exact moment, in a way it won't be for anyone else at any other time. Plus, we don't even know how long "Chapter 3.5" is yet, which is a huge component of whether they should be combined.

I think the difference in perspective is exactly what you were saying, you know every possible branching pathway in the chapter, from RO choice, to whether we meet Vallen or not, to whether we discover Vallen's true nature or not. As a result it feels so much bigger because there are so many variations of the path in this chapter. From a practical standpoint though, the actual variant routes themselves are pretty brief. Obviously Vallen's meeting when you figure her out is lengthier, but not by much, so the chapter does feel short to me as it is.

Rue

I did not find it too long, neither with nor without Vallen. In fact, it actually seemed way shorter than the previous one. Perhaps because the long scene with Mist was so conversation heavy and that (to me) tends to feel longer (because I usually study every little bit of the characters' voices and what they're saying). So a bit more of an "action sequence" (even if it's "just" talking/walking with Raphael) felt way shorter to me afterwards.

Jo

without vallen i think the chapter is quite short, with it i dunno. if anything i felt getting to mist was much longer in total than afterwards
