As she passes by you, you feel cold fingers brushing your wrist. Her pale face looks ghostly under the shadows of the hood, but this close, you see her soft blue eyes on you. "I will be inside," Alessa says, her voice calmer than you've heard all day.
You turn your hand and grab her forearm, forcing her to stop. Ducking your head, you lock eyes with her. "Alright?" you ask.
Alessa smiles. It's faint and tired-looking, but you'll take it. "Yes, darlin—" Alessa bites her lip. "Yes," she says and dances away from you. "Now, go feed that beast of yours before he mutinies."
Just on cue, Billy hits his hooves on the ground. His nostrils flare, probably smelling hay.
