What pop artists should I check out?

Yooo Crew!

I’m looking to dive into some Western pop artists for reaction videos! I forgot to entertain this idea but after seeing a comment from Sham I remembered I barely talked about this. Before kpop, I did not entertain pop music lol. Of course there are some major hits I heard at work or on the radio on the way to school but I've got a lot of people I could check out.

I’m considering artists like Taylor Swift, One Direction (or soloists like Harry Styles, Zayn, etc.), Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo but idk who to start with!

So I'm looking for some suggestions for who to check out and maybe albums too? Drop your recommendations in the comments, and let me know why you think I’d enjoy them.

Thanks in advance for your help!

HUMANKIND. Enough said

Kpop.Princess

It was a very pleasant surprise when I first found WWFAWDWG? (the album I mentioned, the name is so dang long lol)! I'd heard Ocean Eyes from Billie but didn't have any clue about what her style would be like outside of that, so listening to Bury a Friend as my second ever song from her was WILD. She and her brother have done so many things between beautiful ballads and some very experimental stuff too, it's very impressive

maria_yah

I think I have only listened to the major tracks I'll have to check spotify, I cancelled my membership now they won't show me album tracklists lol

anthonytoo

also ariana grande has killer albums 🙏 out of the ones you listed though i think taylor has some decent album tracks but for me personally i have to be in a certain mood to listen 😅

Soyeon Enjoyer

have you checked out doja cat other than her super popular tracks? she has my favorite discography even down to her soundcloud & unreleased 😭 she puts something in her music & her voice is very versatile; her latest album scarlet is more rap/rnb but planet her is pop perfection!!!!

Soyeon Enjoyer

I love Arya Star and I've heard some Tems! I think I've heard that Wesley Joseph song with Dean due to spotify shuffle. Hozier is pop?

anthonytoo

sadly i've already heard two maybe three albums already for fikester! (no mvs or anything)

anthonytoo

dude. i’m fried if you start watching one direction, something bad will happen to me. i start becoming 14 again. so instead, i will recommend dominic fike. i know you know him, but idk how into him you are. he’s great mix between pop and indie rnb/alternative perhaps?? his mvs are usually really cool tho and fashion is obviously dope.

addyson taft

Taste. Jon is still one of my fave artists to this day and im hyped for him to be releasing his own music again soon!

Lauren Freeman

YESSSS! That is the exception to my rule and I completely forgot that -- I listened to ALL of Jon Bellion since 2012 first album because he was a part of the Call of Duty gaming music scene when i was apart of that community. He is GOATED. I also listened to Chappel Roan on my drive back home from TX (again to give new music shot) and she was actually very unique. I listened to The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess - there was some songs I liked I don't remember if any were added to my likes but I listened front to back after hearing whatever viral song she has on tiktok.

anthonytoo

I've actually unintentionally heard some Troye Sivan probably over 20 tracks - he's got a good voice but man I felt like the songs sounded the same! I'll have to listen again with a more open mind lmao

anthonytoo

I can’t say Beyoncé is pop but her renaissance album is just too good to not suggest 😭 Victoria Monet, Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, FLO, Chloe x Halle - Ungodly Hour album is a no skip too!

Megan

Flo, Raye, Troye Sivan!

Mimi

raye ♡

thereseA

tate mcrae!!! upcoming pop superstar and she’s insane!!! also doechii!!!! amazing rap unmatched!!!!

Linzi Adams-Brady

I should probably add that if you want to get engagement the answer is taylor swift and make short edits of your reactions for tiktok. I'm not even a swifty and that's how I discovered HTHAZE. Maybe think about streaming as well?

Lauren Freeman

Relient K! Punk pop~ 🤘

Katie

I really love Jon Bellion and he has written and produced for like EVERYONE (hitmaker) but a lot of kpop fans don't know his album The Human Condition is a work of art, Chappell Roan is incredible, she's not pop more indie but Ethel Cains Preachers Daughter is a FASCINATING album and another tale told in album form. These are all interesting albums. Jb and ec are albums with an overarching vision and concept.

Lauren Freeman

also none of those artists are MV artists, like they have them, but it's more about the music so album listens are recommended with focus on sounds over visual. if by any chance you are interested i'd love to send you a playlist or something just to share the music for fun

boxgrux

second Karol G

boxgrux

not really pop at all, but here's some banger music i like that you can check out in your own time maybe...: misterwives, florence and the machine, beach bunny, king gizzard and the lizard wizard, the murlocs, royal & the serpent

boxgrux

I've forgotten how genres work lol, i completely forgot pop doesn't mean just a popular Western music 😭😭

Daniela V.

i just gasped. gorillaz is my favorite, like all time favorite. i wouldn't say they're pop, so i didn't mention them, but YES anyways.

chelsey

Gorillaz maybe? They're a group I've always been curious about so I'd be down to check em out with you

Daniela V.

Yesssss! I love Billie's music so much and her MVs are always creative

Daniela V.

Latin pop truly has some amazing singers!

Daniela V.

never heard of that one!

anthonytoo

Latino pop ?! Its "western" i guess lol: Rauw Alejandro Karol G Theyre more "reggaeton pop" think pop rap ... Classic pop: LUIS MIGUEL (super junior actually covered a song of his lol) GLORIA TREVI ! Juan Gabriel (god of live performances)

Ms. Carpio

came back to say that if u check out harry styles definitely check out his first album, its my personal opinion but its his best work and as much as i love his other music they have not topped hs1 for me

alejandra

Tate McRae

Sophia

• FLO ( a british rnb pop girl group !! ) - walk like this, check, caught up, cardboard box mv’s. • 5sos (pop rock band !!) - teeth, youngblood, want you back, easier (live from the vault) the rest are mv’s. • sabrina carpenter - please please please, taste, feather mv’s. • ariana grande - dangerous woman / we can’t be friends / the boy is mine / boyfriend feat social house /leave me lonely ( live vevo presents ) her entire recent eternal sunshine album is a must listen !!

sincerely, nai. ♥︎

oh & for guys, yeaa... zayn and harry are good picks.

chelsey

halsey (been a fan since tumblr days) chappell roan (current obsession) also: billie eilish & charli xcx i am also a taylor swift fan, whether i like to admit it or not. not sure you would be though lmao. -- i think billie would be a good start tbh, you'd like her for sure.

chelsey

Billie Eilish, I'd say start with her album When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, it's so good! Some of the songs also have music videos I feel like you could enjoy (Bury a Friend, All the Good Girls Go to Hell, You Should See Me in a Crown (iirc this one has both an animated MV and a simple regular one too)), often quite dark in tone! Bury a Friend is probably one of my favourite MV's in general

maria_yah

Selena Gomez

Ceyda Nur

Nial Horan and Zayn( or any member from 1D, but mostly those two). As well as their Music from when they were a group!! They were my very first concert, so I would actually love it if you listened to their music!! I'm also a big fan of 5sos!! Their Music is amazing!! Not a pop artist, but a fun listen would be George Ezra's Music! He's a little more folksy. Sabrina Carpenter, I feel, is a must. This isn't American pop, but Jeff Satur is a Thai pop artist you should check out. Halsey's Music is good, too!!

Alyson

Really in my Charli XCX era rn so i have to say her first Billie Eilish - amazing voice and lyrics and she has some really cool music videos Sabrina Carpenter too! Chloe & Halle’s Ungodly Hour album maybe PinkPantheress? Troye Sivan Can’t remember if you said you’ve listened to Doechii in the Extra L reaction but if you haven’t her last mixtape is sooooo worth the listen

Sereiiin

Ok ima go for more new/upcoming or just “less know” artist. Top songs I listen to the most. -Zayn for sure mans voice is amazing. 1) Pillowtalk, 2) love like this, 3) better, 4) dusk till dawn, 5) alienated live https://youtu.be/2ntdRjSdzZ4?feature=shared -FLO (girl group)( pop/r&b) love them will be seeing them in April 👏 1) Walk like this, 2) In My Bag, 3) check, 4) Immature. Feel like u should of heard them tho lol -Raye: 1) Hard Out Here, 2) Escapism, 3) Oscar winning tears live https://youtu.be/BtdBQ1-fzXM?feature=shared -Teddy Swims: 1) Guilty, 2) The Door, 3) loose control live: https://youtu.be/GZ3zL7kT6_c?feature=shared -Carpetman: found him from TikTok. his vocal range is insane def would like you to hear him even if it’s just once. Music is more instrumental pop type. 1) You will never know it, 2) feel so cold, 3) anyway I love it.

Sham Sham

Sabrina Carpenter, Benson Boone, Chappell Roan, Teddy Swims ( he genre hops though) Jessie Murph she genre hops too but i love her !

elle

billie eilish and olivia rodrigo are my faves!!! chappell roan is also really cool

skzlover

Chappel Roan!!!! She's the Lady Gaga of this gen I feel like

Daniela V.

RAYE (My 21st Century Blues), Doechii (Alligator Bites Never Heal), Rachel Chinouriri (What a Devestating Turn of Events), Lola Young (This Wasn't Meant for You)

Esther

i completely agree with this love Brina

elle

would actually love to see you react to zayn !! highly recommend the icarus falls album, its probably one of my favorite albums ever

alejandra

One Direction isn't my cup of tea since they leaned rather heavy on the boy group sound that I don't particularly love, but they gave us Zayn and Harry Styles so I appreciate them for that. Those two specifically are also great artists to get into.

Kayla Kittrell

Oh LOVE. I'd love more South America reactions any day!!

VeggieMighty

Sabrina Carpenter's evolution is actually crazy. from Disney to now, she literally does not have a bad song. I recently listened to her entire discography and it was actually wild how she almost went from releasing poppy, innocent, disney bops to this sexually confident and insanely relatable gen z pop icon. She is worthwhile. I definely think, due to age and what I've seen you vibe with most in kpop, you should just kind of catch up with what she's done in at least the last 2-3 years. Olivia Rodrigo is on the same timeline as Sabrina. She has a past with Disney as well and started acting but as soon as she turned 18 she left and started releasing her own music. Her style I would say overall is pop but she leans more on the emotional, pop rock, indie, alternative side and her lyrical content is some of the best from the pop girlie's today. She only has 2 albums now since she's fairly new but I would 1000% recommend her. You didn't mention her name but definitely Billie Eilish. Idk if you already know her stuff but if not I think you would vibe with her. Her stuff is darker. She's also been doing music since she was a teenager (13/14 I think) honestly one of the best lyricist out there as well as her brother Finneas who also releases music himself and helps with nearly all of Billie's music, production and songwriting wise. Just to add some men on here, JVKE is actually quite fun to listen to as well as Charlie Puth. Eric Nam releases mostly american pop and i wanna say 75-80% of his discography is in english, so if you want something sort of familiar since he's still technically kpop ig. This comment is hella long so I'll stop here but I definitely have more.

Kayla Kittrell

PinkPantheress album heaven knows! Especially with her being an inspiration in kpop. I definitely think this could be a fun listen. 🙂‍↕️

boe

Girlies: Doechii, Tinashe, Tate McRae, Psiryn, Kali Uchis (Especially her Latin Albums), Amaarae, Doja Cat, Audrey Nuna, Yeji (I love her recent Pongeggi MV) Dudes: Christian Kuria, Cautious Clay, Hozier, Stromae, TayC, DUCKWRTH has been dropping some groovy shii etc. UK specifically: FKA Twigs, RAYE, FLO, Wesley Joseph (He has a great song with DEAN too!), Peggy Gou, Greentea Peng And what about our African girlies like Tyla, Tems, Njerae, Ayra Star etc etc. ? Not Western but have you checked out f5ve? I love Magic Clock, UFO, Underground and Lettuce from them

VeggieMighty

What about some Brazilian artists?

Vitoria

Sabrina is good one

Vitoria

Can you please react to tate mcraes singles in this order (Its ok, Im ok, 2 Hands, Sports Car and revolving door) they’re very 2000s coded. So if you vibe with the tracks you should listen to the album. (So close to what)
