I think being honest that he's only pretending she's his gf is the smartest move. That way if there's another situation where he has to pull up with a group of girls to fit in he won't have his crashout gf at home acting reckless and ruining the plan. If she knows what's up, he's not lying to her so there's no expectation of loyalty from him but she can cling onto the possibility of proving her worth. Now she'll do anything to prove herself AND she'll stay in her "place"
