noooo i legit forgot about the end scene… i remembered he was beheaded but i didn’t remember that he had went along with what sansa plead for and confessed joffrey’s “right” to the throne and still got betrayed?!?! plus tyrion’s backstory… maester aemon as well.. i forgot so much 😭😭 this show is crazy like how was even cersei telling joffrey at the end like “this is madness” when he went rogue and decided to have him put to death.. insanity

The master Aemon reveal remains one of my favorite show moments. It's easy to overlook compared to everything else that happens in this episode of course but it just so perfectly encapsulates what John is going through and the decisions he'll have to make to prioritize his duty to the night's watch. I do think the show did an overall good job but I think it's hard to describe how shocking the Ned moment was as a book reader. Of course it was an option but politically it was such an incredibly horrible move and there were so many different reasons for it not to happen that it underscores more than anything else how absolutely batshit crazy Joffrey is. I do like that the story also doesn't let Ned cop out as just the good guy. They call him out for essentially being prideful and honorable to his detriment. It's a great character trait but at the end of the day when your entire family is on the line what is honor? It's sick that when he finally does give in, probably for the sake of his children it didn't earn him anything and now most of the common people will think of him as a traitor so he doesn't even get his reputation (outside of the north of course) Doing this in the penultimate episode and not the finale was also such a flex because it's kind of like the showrunners saying oh if you think this is the climax of the show you have no idea what's going to happen next and in future. People have mentioned but Baelor the blessed was an old Targaryen King who was known for being very peaceful and religious. A Sept is like the church of the faith of the seven so this one is named after him.

What sticks with me in that last scene is that even Cercei pleads for Joffrey to spare Ned. Whether her intentions behind it were twisted or not, it just puts into perspective how ROGUE Joffrey is/ can be. This is one of the big deaths in this show that sticks with you, which, in my opinion, is really impressive. Credit needs to be given to the writers and the Actor who plays Ned Stark. He made the character not only likable but extremely memorable within the span of only nine episodes out of an 80-episode series.

They do cover this, your comment is a spoiler, please take it down

Why did Varys have me emotional from the beginning lol. He really wants Ned to live and I think he meant it would be better for Sansa to have a living father instead of a dead one. Ned is too honorable for his own good Walder Frey is sickening. He's up there with Joffrey in my book I love the casting for Tywin. A top tier actor I was so sad to see Drogo on the verge of death in a way that isn't befitting of his warrior status Ned looking for Arya one last time had me CRYING

Nah why do I still get so upset from that last like 10 mins?? they portrayed/directed ned's execution so perfectly and Sean bean's acting was so good here. I Think it's Sansa and her realisation that she's been betrayed what hits me the most. She suddenly is aware that Joffrey has betrayed her, and she is (in result) going to be stuck with him. her screaming makes me tear up every time I see that scene fr 😭

Oh you right lmao, he just doesn’t go by his last (family) name publicly

As others said that man is named Yoren and Baelor was the statue Arya was standing on. The place they brought Ned and where everyone was gathering was the Sept of Baelor which is essentially a church. Which brings me to wonder, have you noticed that the religions in this show are pretty much paralleling some of our real world religions? It's obviously not exact and this is a medieval fantasy show, but the Faith of the Seven or the New Gods is a parallel to Christianity and other organized religion while the Old Guards worshiped in the North with the weirwood trees and such are parallels to certain kinds of paganism. Super cool imo!

the first time i watched this episode i was really angry too, now watching it again after years i'm mostly just sad ☹️ ned deserved better than that

The statue Arya was sitting next to is a statue of Baelor the Blessed. That’s why the area is called the Sept of Baelor, and Ned yells “Baelor” at Yoren the nights watch guard to get him to look over and see Arya and save her

VERTICILE

Aemon Targaryen didn’t change his name, Maester is his title so he’s called Maester Aemon. There’s also Grand Maester Pycelle in Kings Landing and Maester Luwin in Winterfell (gave catelyn the letter in episode 1)

The sounds coming from the tent- that's a no from me dawg. You couldn't pay me enough money to go in there. The scene where Robb returns from the battle and his mother is crying. He left as a boy and came back as a man. You can see the difference after just one battle, it's crazy Watching this season knowing what happens to Ned was so hard. The way he treats his children with such love and affection in every single scene. How respectful he is to everyone around him, he didn't deserve this, any of this. I mean none of them do, it's crazy to think how this all started because of the dagger that was used against Bran I don't think Jaime did the wife thing with malice, he seems to genuinely care for Tyrion. I imagine since Tyrion was not popular with girls Jaime wanted him to have something nice for once. He kept it a secret until his father forced him to tell Tyrion the truth Baelor was just the statue at the center of the place where Arya was standing. The man he talked to is Yoren, he's the recruiter from the night watch, we saw him talk a bit with Tyrion and Ned. Ned knew he was trustworthy so he hints at the statue so he'll see Arya and keep her safe. I think Baelor was a king but it's not really important
