I appreciate these long comments Dani!

anthonytoo

I'm glad! I don't generally do that but this show feels like its neccesary

anthonytoo

hey it happens sometimes :) not intentionally.

anthonytoo

some rly fun moments in this episode lmao esp the nights watch

So "winter is coming" is the house slogan of the Starks because they live in the North closest to The Wall they suffer the harshest Winters and the philosophy of the northern people is to not waste time during the summer months thinking that the good is going to last forever but always being prepared for the winter to come. So I think they're using it both literally to say summer is ending and winter is coming but also as a metaphor to say the good times will not last forever and you need to be prepared.

My tiny advice would be to try to talk between pieces of dialogue and not over it cause sometimes you missed smtgh or asked a question about something that was just said. But I know it's kinda hard to anticipate the rythm of the dialogue. Or maybe lowering your mic/turning up the volume of the show a little bit idk

Alexia

I loved all your points prior to the video ! it's cool to see where you're at with the show, how you feel about the characters etc.

Alexia

Now i know where my dislike for Sansa’s character stems from 😭 i forgot why ngl

Ok so I’m confused on “Winter is coming” is it referring to actual Winter or are we talking about War?! Also I cannot stand the Lannister Twins omg the amount of time I wanted to puke whenever they come on screen. I would not be surprised if none of her kids are the King’s. Probably the brother’s. I gotta also say I’m happy Denarys (idk how to spell it) is taking the initiative to gain power among the Dathrakis because she’ll need it. And I cannot wait for those eggs to hatch.

I really like you sharing your thoughts. I do this point form as usual as I go through the episode: * I think your insight on Sansa's pretty mature. I think it's very easy to just totally write her character off off the bat. Her behavior was definitely wretched but keeping in mind that this is supposed to be like a 13 or 14 year old girl raised to be very traditional it doesn't make what she did right but at least you can see how the character is flawed. Definitely any young woman of that time would be told that there would be no greater honor for them than to become queen. And their family would be extremely powerful being related to the king. * Others have given more details about the religions so I'll keep it short but suffice to say there's various different religions in the show that you'll get introduced to their interesting but you'll still understand the plot without getting deep into them. * On that note Game of thrones is so densely structured in terms of world building that there's a whole separate book the author wrote which is basically a fictional history book set in the world going over hundreds of years of history and characters that don't even matter to the main story but there's just so much there. definitely after each season there's some decent behind the scenes content that will flesh out your immersion and understanding of the world but we'll continue to explain the important terms. * I love medieval insults lol they have such a elegant and witty way of saying you ain't shit. * Cersei is like the worst, most toxic boy mom you could ever imagine.

Could u turn on the subtitles for the rest of the subtitles

only 30 mins in but wanted to comment before i forget: i’m so happy to hear your thoughts in the beginning of this! esp after you’ve had a bit of time to process. at this point in the show, i definitely agree w/you! i understand how sansa has a complicated position now as anything she does now will likely affect her future (just based on all the future marriage talks between the lannister family and the stark family) HOWEVER i just can’t fully justify it bc that’s your little sister idk… i also agree w/ your list of good people thus far, i think you also mentioned robb in ep 2 maybe? ALSO BIG AGREE bc why is mama stark so angry at jon for simply existing when her husband is the reason he’s in the damn house like?? 🤦🏽‍♀️ “fuck them kids” had me ctfu 🤣 edit: i think the 17yrs thing that cat referred to was that approximately 17 yrs ago when ned and robert went off to war, he came back a year-ish later with jon, not that the war lasted 17 years :)

delete this 😭😭

i'd probably change the "lannister" part to baratheon

I think you have it pretty spot on with Sansa, in my opinion, she wants to exude mature energy, not only for people around her but I also think it's for herself to in a way keep her confidence up about the choices she is making for her future. You'll get more into Little Finger's past relationship with Katherine in the future!! But I guess I could say it's not a secret that he has an obsession with Katherine in particular.

Alyson

I think Ned took the girls with him so they could expand their view of the world and gain more experience. Then in a few years when they were of age, they could get married

This show has great dialogue and Syrio has some of the best lines. I think Joffrey had ideas because he was born into royalty and Cersei is raising him to be her perfect prince. But I think we can foresee that that is not going to be Joffrey's future. He's way too sinister and proud to keep listening to other people. Sansa is the typical aristocratic girl that was taught to be a lady with useful skills. Usually these girls try to be the next queen cause that's the highest status a woman can achieve or they're already a candidate due to their House's status/influence. Arya defying what's expected of her in her position and not being 'a lady' probably embarrasses Sansa, as that drops her merit. Also, Sansa takes after her mom, Cat, whom cares greatly about her status as a lady. It's why she gives Jon the cold shoulder. He is a reminder of how her family isn't "perfect" due to him being an illegitimate son and is living proof of her husband's affair

Jess

House of dragon is about the Targaryen’s it’s a prequel but it’s not a direct prequel it’s further in the past

Some names - Lord Varys- Bald guy with the little birds Renly- King Roberts younger brother, part of the council you saw Littlefinger/ Lord Pyter Baelish- slimy dude obsessed with Cat. Grand Maester- old guy from the council The Hound/ Ser Sandor Clegane- Joffreys royal babysitter Princess Myrcella- Robert and Cersei's daughter, not seen a lot because like you said, Cersei's really only focused on Joffrey Commander Jeor Mormont- commander of the nights watch, father of Ser Jorah Mormont Jorah Mormont- guy advising Dany, he betrayed his father by selling slaves. Ned sentenced him to death but he fled across the narrow sea and that's where he ended up following Dany. Not sure I understood your question but he's not Targaryen Lancel Lannister- cousin of the main Lannisters Yoren- recruiter for the wall Syrio Forel- Aryas dancing teacher :')

Gonna make a separate comment with names cause this is kinda long but here are some answers/ thoughts I had: We are here for the yapping, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It would be so boring to watch someone just for facial expressions! I think Ned only took the girls to kings landing to look for potential husbands for them but tbh that also confuses me cause Arya is kinda young. They did say there must always be a Stark at Winterfell so I guess that's why Robb and Cat stayed. I guess the kids are too small to be taken along, especially after Brans accident Every house/family has a mascot of sorts, Starks have the direwolves, Lannisters have lions, Targaryens have dragons, Baratheons have stags (deer). During the music intro you can see the storyline of Robert's rebellion play out with their respective animals, it's pretty cool! So yes, House of Dragons is a prequel about the Targaryens I believe. Might be wrong as I haven't watched it. Oh I just noticed during the intro the actors names also have their house animals next to them. That's cute There's been some youtubers who are super into old timey clothes that go into all the layers people used to wear, it's kinda crazy. I don't doubt that they're warm, especially with so many animal furs on them! The Wall is just around the northern part. I believe the rest of the land is surrounded by water so they can't really go around. I'm picturing Westeros (the seven kingdoms) as Florida lol I think Jaime said "and later when I watched the mad king die, I remembered him laughing as your father burned, it felt like justice." I think this scene is super cool because it talks about how 500 men stood as the Mad King burned Ned's father and brother because that's what they were SUPPOSED to do. That's what they swore an oath to do, obey the king. So you have this juxtaposition between doing the "honorable" thing and doing the truly honorable thing. So many rules and customs written to be "honorable" and Jaime points out how frail/hypocritical they are when he says "if I had stabbed him in the front would you admire me more?". It mirrors Sansa's and Arya's situation a lot where Arya would rather do the right thing rather than do things by the book. This whole thing also ties into what Cersei was saying. The winner decides the truth about historical events. Roberts rebellion is only seen as "honorable" because he won and became the king. Otherwise he would've been seen as a traitor or something along those lines. Sansa seems to be mad at her dad right now for going through with killing Lady or maybe not defending her as much?

ok so basically (anyone please correct me if i'm off)... the main religion in this world is "the faith". but not the only religion & not the main religion in the north - where the starks are from. "the faith" says that there is one god with seven faces, but they're referred to as the seven gods. those faces being: the mother, father, maiden, crone, warrior, smith, & stranger. they all represent different things, THE LORE IS ENDLESS! but since you asked about "the mother" specifically: "The Mother represents mercy, peace, fertility, and childbirth. She is sometimes referred to as 'the strength of women'. Apart from human fertility, she also blesses crops with bountiful harvests." that information isn't something you really need to retain right now imo lol

Hey man, I wanted to see if you would be willing to react to the Game of Thrones Histories and Lore videos? Not a lot of GOT reactors watch them, but they are a delight for those interested in the universe. Divided by season, you would watch the first one after the season one finale, second one after season two finale, etc. They do not spoil anything, more so give a bit more of the deeper lore of things like the gods, the various regions, and history of the world before the time GOT is set in. I ask because you seem very curious about the world of GOT and without doing an extreme deep dive into the books and wiki which will undoubtedly spoil you on the show, the History and Lore videos are the next best thing for those who are curious about the world but do not want their viewing experience ruined. If you do decide to check them out, I recommend the series by the channel, Throne Insider. There are various versions of the videos but the one by that channel is the best edited. Also, I recommend taking notes as the hour long videos have a crap ton of info that will be good to remember as you watch.
