New Prerelease - Animated Ink Bleed!

Hey everyone, Just finished uploading a new one!

ADVANCED BLEEDING INK in AFTER EFFECTS

We’re diving back into CC Time Blend FX, the “Secret Effect of After Effects”, which continues to be both the most confusing and the most awesome effect in After Effects! So confusing/awesome that you have to jump through a few hoops just to use it.

I love this application of the effect though. It’s a video that’s been on my list for a very long time. This technique actually came before, and was the original inspiration for the Color Bleed Photoshop video from 2020.

I’ll attach the effect preset mentioned in the video; alternately, you can open the attached AE project file, and jump right into creating animated ink bleeds. Let me know what you think!

A few monthly updates toward the end of the week... Hope all is well with you!!

Cheers, Brady

Ah bummer. Ya it's a deceptively simple challenge in AE, trying to get it to render frames in sequence, one at a time, from the beginning of the timeline. With every version there seem to be some new settings to tweak. If it's for a project you really want to get the effect working for, might be worth trying to install an older version? (I think creative cloud lets you install a copy of 2022 at least) There are a couple youtube vids on TimeBlend FX from other channels that might be worth checking out - I think everyone has tried to figure out hacks to get it working!

I had high hopes on this but defeated me. Flickering, even not scaling for full text, even can't changed the text. I tried your first answer including Cache Frame When Idle, off to Multi frame rendering but no hope. Man, I should know, this was too good to be trueee!

Good question... No, no animation at all actually.... On that white solid layer, instead of using the stroke effect, I just put a few instances of the Circles effect on there just to make some dots. It would actually be cool to have each one pop on in sequence a few frames apart like you mentioned. But that example in the video there are just 3 little circle dots right on the first frame. Did I understand the question? Hope that helps!

I get how the stroke works but i still can't wrap my mind around the ink drop method. are you animating the circles? how did you just throw 3 of them down in succession like that?

I hear ya... it can be pretty tricky to get the render and preview settings right with Time Blend FX. I think the reason they stopped including it with AE is just that the program renders in a totally different order now. So, the challenge is to try to get AE to render like it's 2016. Purging everything almost constantly is definitely the first step. Also, these two settings in the program: In Composition > Preview, you'll need to uncheck Cache Frames When Idle. Then in Preferences > Memory & Performance, turn off Multi-Frame Rendering. If you go to the first frame and do one more Purge before rendering, theoretically it should give you a clean slate to render every frame in chronological order... Hopefully that should sort it out. I wish they'd find some way to work the effect back into the program without it having to be a hack!

Hi mate! Thanks so much for this, it's great, but I have an issue when I try to make a preview (I need to purge all the time) or to render it, it flickers.

Hahaha I'll take it, thanks Nick!

Awesome thanks man!

You're a bad man, Brady. Run DMC and LL Cool J, bad. Not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning good!

SWEEEEEET!
