PRI Chapter 18: Double Kill!

In fact, on the very day George and Casas were conspiring, Lind had already received the news.

Because Andy had reported to him about all of George's activities.

Including his meeting with Casas in the exercise yard, his back-and-forth movements between the central monitoring area and the cell block, as well as his desire to replace the duty guards.

Lind truly hadn't expected that Andy would have the talent to be a secret agent.

He was able to monitor George so thoroughly.

After hearing about George's behavior, Lind also made corresponding deployments and prepared for the worst-case scenario.

That was what to do if George once again let all the prisoners out.

Fortunately, the other doors in the cell block had multiple layers of protection that couldn't be opened with a single key.

So he and James speculated about the passages that might be opened and finally determined the most likely location, which was the corridor from the cell block to the main building.

Now it seemed everything was under control.

However, there were still two people.

Casas and George.

They had disappeared after the riot, probably wanting to find Lind directly and take control of him.

Reality was indeed like this. George and Casas came to the area above the warden's office through the rooftop, and the two jumped onto the balcony and entered the office.

"Where did Edward go?" George looked at the empty room and frowned.

Casas casually picked up a fruit knife with exquisitely carved patterns from the desk, playing with it while saying, "Are you sure this bastard won't run away?"

"Even if he runs, he shouldn't be this fast." George looked around and suddenly felt that the curtains by the window seemed a bit bulky.

He gave Casas a look and slowly paced over.

Then with one hand holding a gun and the other suddenly pulling open the curtains.

"Whoosh!"

The curtains fluttered, revealing a riot shield standing upright against the wall.

Seeing this, both George and Casas felt disappointed.

However, the next second, Lind wearing gloves charged out from behind another curtain and kicked George's knee.

"Damn." George was shocked and about to resist when Lind's iron fist struck his eye socket.

"Ah!" He screamed, and the gun in his hand was directly snatched away by Lind, who turned and aimed it at Casas rushing forward.

"Bang!"

"Bang!"

"Bang!"

Casas was hit three times in the leg, chest, and head, dying on the spot.

"Fuck, Edward, what, what are you doing!" George was so frightened he froze.

He hadn't expected Lind to directly kill Casas!

Lind looked at Casas who died with his eyes wide open and whistled.

So this was what killing felt like?

A bit uncomfortable, but more than anything, satisfying.

Because he had killed a drug dealer, he felt no psychological burden whatsoever.

He looked at the incredulous George and said, "I just did what you guys wanted to do."

"I didn't want to kill you, Edward!" George defended, "We just wanted you to give up your prison shares!"

"Oh?" Lind crouched down and took the fruit knife from Casas's hand, "What do you want the shares for? Who are you getting the shares for?"

"I..." George opened his mouth, not knowing how to begin.

Lind raised the gun at him.

Facing the threat to his life, George quickly spilled everything, "I was getting the shares for Travis. He promised me a large sum of money, as long as I got the shares!"

"Travis, that's the construction contractor, right?"

"Yes."

"But you still haven't explained why you want the shares."

"To use your prison for smuggling."

"Smuggling? You mean drug trafficking." Lind smiled knowingly, looking at George who was panicked at having his thoughts exposed.

"Yes, drug trafficking." George knew he couldn't hide it and could only confess honestly, "Travis's construction company is just a front. Actually, it's a company that Osiel Cárdenas Guillén uses for money laundering."

"Osiel is the head of the Gulf Cartel, and his influence is enormous."

"So Edward, you can't kill me. Right now, only I can save you."

When Lind heard the name Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, he didn't react at first, but when he heard Gulf Cartel, he immediately remembered where he had seen this name.

It was in a 2024 newspaper, about news of Osiel's upcoming release and return.

This guy was the head of the Gulf Cartel and one of Mexico's most notorious drug lords.

Because it was this guy who single-handedly established the violent organization mainly composed of special forces, Los Zetas.

This organization was fond of beheading operations with extremely cruel methods, using the letter Z as their code.

The later Z40 and Z42 were the heads of this organization.

Lind hadn't expected to get involved with this organization.

"Casas was also a Gulf Cartel member. Now that you've killed him, Osiel won't let you go."

George, to save his life, could only reveal the identity of his behind-the-scenes backer.

"You can save me?" Lind asked.

George nodded frantically, "That's right, we can continue cooperating. As long as you give us shares, we can let you continue as warden and give you dividends every year!"

"Then what do you want me to do?"

"You don't need to do anything, Edward. Just let our people take over the prison. We can sell hundreds of millions of dollars worth of drugs every year. You just need to sit in your office and you'll have a huge income!"

George tried hard to tempt Lind.

But in his heart, he was thinking that once Lind agreed, he would cripple this guy and imprison him.

"So you also killed old Edward." Lind suddenly threw out a question.

Unexpectedly, George was stunned, "It wasn't me. I didn't kill old Edward. He committed suicide."

"Are you trying to fool a ghost?" Lind pressed the gun barrel against his head.

"It really wasn't me!" George loudly defended, "I talked with old Edward. He actually intended to sell part of the prison shares to relieve financial pressure. We had almost reached an agreement! I didn't expect him to suddenly die. I was also very surprised!"

"What about Casas?"

"Impossible! How could Casas make it look like hanging when he kills people!"

This statement wasn't wrong. When Casas killed people, he would only slit throats or behead.

"Edward, listen to me. Even if you kill me, it won't help. There will be others who come after you. They have plenty of guns. You can't fight them. Even if you stay in prison your whole life, you can't escape their assassination."

"They act without restraint, killing whoever they want."

"Only cooperation, really, Edward."

After George finished this string of words, he gasped for breath, waiting for Lind's reaction.

Lind put the gun down on the desk, and George secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

"Why did you have to target me?"

"You can only blame the prison's location being too good, too close to Mexico. If we can make it work, we'll save a huge amount of transportation money every year."

Lind suddenly understood and nodded.

"So now besides you guys, are there other Gulf Cartel members in the prison?"

He stared at George, "If we're going to cooperate, we need to be honest."

"No more. The others don't know about this." George answered decisively.

Getting his answer, Lind came in front of George and crouched down, patted his shoulder, and said slowly, "George, thank you for your answers."

"Let me give you some advice."

"In your next life, don't be a drug dealer."

After saying this, Lind quickly raised his hand and thrust the fruit knife fiercely into George's neck.

"Hiss!"

Blood gushed out from his neck like a cheerful little fountain.

George's eyes widened, helplessly touching his neck. He wanted to open his mouth to curse angrily but could only spit out large amounts of bloody foam.

"Ugh ugh..." He fell to the ground, feeling his life drain away bit by bit, his eyelids growing heavier and heavier until his consciousness was shrouded in darkness.

After killing the man, Lind took off his gloves and stuffed them in his pocket.

He looked at the mess in his office and sighed, "I said it before. What I hate most in this life are drug dealers."
