PRI Chapter 16: George's Desperate Gamble
Added 2025-08-15 08:19:54 +0000 UTCThe day after the state corrections search was completed, at noon.
Avery bid farewell to Lind with his special team.
After the two police armored vehicles left, Lind returned to the prison building.
At this time, his task list had been updated.
[Task 1: Earn $500,000 within 30 days to repay the first loan installment. Reward: Random assembly line blueprint]
[Task 2: Suppress a prisoner riot. Reward: Advanced Maintenance skill]
[Task 3: Resolve the strike issue. Reward: Sedative spray can ×2 (Completed)]
[Task 4: Pass the state corrections inspection. Reward: Covert electronic surveillance ×5 (Completed)]
Lind opened the drawer and found that the so-called covert electronic surveillance referred to five thumb-sized 360-degree surveillance cameras.
These cameras could not only record high-definition video but also audio.
They were much better than the cameras currently used in the prison.
However, the quantity was somewhat limited. After thinking about it, Lind planned to install one each at the prison area gate, inside the prison area, outside the office, in the cafeteria, and in the laundry room.
But to install them, he'd need to find a maintenance worker.
Lind instructed HR to call Jim over and also told HR to continue posting job listings in the newspaper.
He needed to quickly expand the guard team and replace some unqualified guards.
While Lind was busy with recruitment matters, George stood outside the wire fence of the exercise yard, watching the prisoners chat and boast in small groups.
He wore an ill-fitting blue guard uniform, holding a baton in his hand, occasionally tugging at his pants to suck in his belly.
Since coming to Border Prison, today was his worst day.
"Damn that son of a bitch Edward." George spat on the ground, then looked around.
When he found that other guards weren't paying attention to him, he quickly walked to one side and approached Casas.
Casas was sitting on the ground at the time.
Although his body showed no visible injuries, he was exhausted to the extreme.
Having endured 6 hours of "Texas TV" and 24 hours of cold air confinement, no matter how fierce he was, he couldn't muster any energy.
Seeing George approach, Casas couldn't control his emotions and cursed, "Fuck! Where the hell did you go! Why didn't you tell me that idiot warden was going to search!"
George quickly gestured for him to be quiet, "Keep it down, Casas! I had no idea he would do that!"
"He tricked me into going to the state corrections to deliver a check!"
"But when I came back, he demoted me."
"This guy had it planned all along!"
Casas was still relentless, "Stupid pig! Is your brain filled with shit?"
"Enough!" George knew he was in the wrong and simply said directly, "Our plan is exposed, Casas. Although I don't know how he found out, Young Edward obviously doesn't trust me anymore."
"So what?"
"So let's just kill him." George abandoned his previous plan.
Hearing this, Casas was stunned, then sneered, "I knew it, your plan was unreliable from the start! Let's do it my way."
"No, no, no." George carefully looked around the situation nearby and continued, "I don't mean actually kill him."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Casas kicked the wire fence hard.
"Calm down." George laid out his entire plan.
"We don't need a dead man, we need a puppet."
"Next, I'll find an opportunity to let you out, then take you to Young Edward's office."
"After that, you break his hand or leg and force him to sign the transfer contract."
Casas said angrily, "Why not kill him? I want to cut off his head!"
"You can't do that. Travis can't open a prison himself, even indirectly owning a complete prison won't work! The FBI will target us. Young Edward is our best shield."
After explaining, George took out a small key and threw it on the ground, then kicked it through the wire fence.
"This is your cell key. This time we must be fast and not give Young Edward time to react."
"Fuck." Casas cursed and complained but didn't refuse the plan, "You'd better be quick!"
"Don't worry."
George turned around and saw a guard nearby walking toward him, so he quickly picked up his baton and struck the wire fence, "Get lost, you garbage, don't try to buddy up with me!"
Casas spat at him, then quickly walked away.
...
In the afternoon, George patrolled the prison area, constantly looking for the right opportunity.
However, because James had replanned the guards' patrol schedule, he couldn't find an opening.
Having no choice, he approached Andy Cock.
This guy he had completely looked down upon before was now his captain.
He swaggered around the prison every day and always liked to find fault with other guards.
George didn't want to deal with him, but had no choice since Andy was responsible for the daily duty roster.
During mealtime, George took his tray and sat across from Andy.
"Andy... Captain." He smiled without warmth, looking very reluctant.
"Is there something, George?" Andy forked a piece of chicken into his mouth.
"A small matter. I want to adjust my duty schedule." George forcefully displayed a friendly attitude.
He said, "I need to accompany my wife to a party the day after tomorrow, so I want to switch to tomorrow night duty."
"Tomorrow?" Andy frowned and thought for a moment, then shook his head, "But tomorrow is already arranged for others."
"Don't be like that, Andy." George persuaded, "I helped you before, don't you remember? That time your mother was sick, I gave you leave, so now you should help me too."
Andy shrugged, "Alright, then I'll have Carter replace you tomorrow."
"Thanks, Andy." George became happy, quickly finished the food on his tray, got up and left.
Andy watched his departing figure and spat hard on the ground.
The next evening, several cars drove out of the prison gate one after another.
"Thanks for your hard work today, George." Andy changed out of his guard uniform, put away his gun, then walked out of the prison area gate.
"No problem." George stood at the door, smiling and waving.
"Bye, George."
"See you tomorrow, George."
After his colleagues left one by one, George turned back to look at Cookwa, who was on duty with him.
This was a young black man whose shiny bald head glowed under the lights.
"I'll take care of patrol tonight, you can rest in the control room."
"Really?" Cookwa was a bit surprised.
"Of course, I can handle these prisoners alone." George had a confident expression.
Cookwa thought about it, then shook his head, "Forget it, James said patrol must always be done by two people together."
George wanted to persuade him more but was afraid Cookwa would become suspicious, so he could only nod, "Alright, then we'll go together."
After speaking, he began thinking about how to get rid of this guy.
