PRI Chapter 12: Texas Department of Corrections Surprise Inspection

Casas was indeed a tough guy.

He endured standing for a full 6 hours without opening his mouth, stubbornly insisting that he had taken the paring knife from the kitchen himself.

The other prisoners weren't as strong-willed as him and confessed one after another.

Some had stolen knives from the kitchen during the riot, some had brought them from outside, and others had gotten them from Casas.

However, these guys didn't know where Casas had gotten his knife from either, so in the end, the question still came back to Casas.

The next day, James stood in the office discussing the prison's future intake procedures with Lind.

"First, entry inspections must be done properly. In the future, not even a fly, no, even how many moles a prisoner has on their body must be checked thoroughly!"

Lind had taken a look at the prison gate last night.

Generally speaking, that was the most strictly searched area of the entire prison, equipped with various detection instruments that should make it impossible for anything to be brought in from outside.

But Border Prison's detectors were just for show and didn't seem to serve much purpose.

When asked, the guards all said this was Deputy Warden George's arrangement.

Compared to detection equipment, he seemed to trust his own hands more.

It sounded like the persistence of an old-school guard?

But Lind knew he was doing it deliberately.

It could only be said that Old Edward had trusted George too much, leaving prison affairs to this traitor.

So much so that with just over 40 prisoners, things were almost in chaos.

"Second, we need to improve guard training, with monthly evaluations. Three failures and immediate dismissal!"

"Finally, establish a patrol system. The prison must be inspected on time every day!"

"Understood." James noted everything down. "However, the prison currently has too few guards and urgently needs to recruit new personnel."

"Three new employees will start today. You can arrange their assignments."

"No problem."

After discussing work matters, Lind asked about the state Department of Corrections inspection, "Can the prison pass the inspector's examination now?"

"I think we can pass, Warden," James said confidently.

"That's good."

Lind nodded, "Then go get busy."

After James left, Lind looked at the prison's panel interface.

[Border Prison (BP)]

[Level: F]

[Staff: 13 people (9 guards, 2 cooks, 1 doctor, 1 HR)]

[Prisoners: 42 people]

[Profit value: -$700,000/year]

[Deterrence value: 32]

Thanks to Lind's inspections and intimidation over the past few days, both the guards' loyalty to him and the prisoners' fear of him had increased.

The deterrence value had also increased considerably as a result.

However, it was still short of the ten-draw. Lind wanted to try drawing twice, but was torn about whether waiting to accumulate 100 would make it easier to get good items.

"Damn, it's all George's fault."

Lind muttered and looked away, turning to go to the guards' gym to start exercising.

Ever since acquiring combat skills, Lind's hands had somehow started itching, requiring daily boxing practice.

Of course, this was also beneficial for him.

Although Young Edward hadn't been drained by wine and women, he was still quite the playboy.

His physical condition was worrying.

Since Lind planned to live to a ripe old age, he naturally couldn't let his body remain so weak.

So starting yesterday, he had resumed exercising, boxing in the gym daily and running around the prison.

After finishing his workout, Lind went to the forest outside the prison.

Several iron barrels were placed here, with glass bottles of various colors arranged on top.

Lind stood ten meters away, raised his Colt M1911, aimed and fired.

"Bang!"

"Bang!"

"Bang!"

With Intermediate Marksmanship, every shot hit its target.

This let Lind experience the thrill of being a shooting expert.

No man doesn't love guns.

Oh, except for Musk's son.

Before transmigrating, Lind was just an amateur hobbyist who had only fired fake guns in live-action CS games.

Now with a real gun, he naturally couldn't put it down.

He planned to set up a gun cabinet in his office after the inspection passed, to satisfy his hobby.

After practicing shooting, evening had arrived.

Returning to his office, Lind suddenly received a call from George.

"Edward, I've arrived at the state corrections building. Where should I go to find the inspector?"

Lind smiled but acted surprised in his tone, "Oh, fuck, George, I forgot to tell you, the inspector is already on his way to the prison!"

"What!" George was extremely shocked.

"Sorry, George, I was so busy today I was dizzy."

Lind had prepared his excuse long ago, "That damn inspector came early, so George, you need to hurry back, preferably before the inspector arrives."

Without waiting for George's response, Lind hung up the phone.

"Now that guy should be rushing back frantically," Lind smiled slightly, humming a tune as he went to inspect the prison.

On the other side.

"Hello! Hello! Edward!"

"Fuck!"

George threw his phone down and slammed the steering wheel twice.

If he couldn't get back before the state corrections inspection, his plan would fail.

How would he explain to the gang boss then?

Say he was fooled by Lind?

Or say he drove 20 hours like an idiot just to deliver a check?

Damn that Young Edward!

After venting, George quickly turned the car around and sped toward Val Verde.

...

The next morning.

Two police armored vehicles marked with "SORT" drove through the snow and arrived at the entrance of Border Prison.

"Texas Department of Corrections!" The window of the lead vehicle rolled down, revealing the face of a brown-haired man with a scar on his cheek.

He waved his credentials in front of Carter, who immediately notified James inside the prison through the intercom.

After receiving confirmation, he opened the gate.

And guided both vehicles to park in the prison parking lot one after another.

"Whoosh!"

The car doors opened, and neatly dressed special operations team members filed out. Some stood in formation on the spot, while others ran quickly to the gate to stand guard.

At the same time, the brown-haired man also jumped down from the vehicle.

He only wore a bulletproof vest with a long-sleeved shirt that had been washed white underneath. The black gun at his waist gleamed, making him look very capable.

"Hello, sir." Carter stepped forward, extending his hand to guide him, "Please come this way."

The brown-haired man wasn't in a hurry to leave. He looked at the quiet but clean exercise yard, then at the guard tower in the distance where guards were stationed.

Nodding thoughtfully, he waved to the special team and followed Carter together.

The building wasn't far away. When the group entered the first-floor lobby, Lind and James happened to be coming down from upstairs.

"I'm DOC Inspector Avery Tucker." When he saw Lind, the brown-haired man introduced himself proactively.

Lind said, "I'm Border Prison Warden, Lind Edward."

"We received a report that your prison experienced a riot incident and that an incident occurred where the warden was harmed." Avery took out his credentials, "Is this true?"

"It wasn't a riot incident." Lind lied with his eyes wide open, "It was just some disputes among prisoners. The scene was somewhat chaotic at the time, and I accidentally fell from upstairs."

"Is that so?" Avery nodded, "Regardless, we believe Border Prison poses safety risks and will conduct a search operation of the prison. During this period, we need the prison guards to cooperate with our actions. Any problems?"

Lind smiled and said, "Of course no problem. We welcome the state Department of Corrections's inspection."
