Loved the reaction and discussion! This was really fun to revisit as I hadn’t rewatched the film since it came out. Also corgi jumper is back! 🥰 Yes, such a packed cast! And rewatching this now made me really think of Inside, I’m sure this was a significant inspiration. Also, your expressions throughout the last 25 or so minutes of the film just killed me. 😆 Now (because of course I will), themes of resistance! 😆 Meta on meta. I really enjoy its presentation of deliberate resistance as a creative tool or exercise, I think this showed the process of trying to use something like that in such a fun way. And also, this film pairs really well with Decision to Leave, I feel. Charlie’s developing obsession with being able to understand Susan, and his projection onto her, to me reads as a great parallel to the way Haejun thought he could investigate and understand Seorae. And ultimately it is Susan and Seorae who defy and resist (even unknowingly) their attempts at rudimentary understanding.
