Yessss, this movie was fantastic! Thank you and Shimoyama so much for the commission! Komiya being so desperate as a child! And how Togashi was also desperate to help him - they are so precious as kids! I love that Togashi was so attentive to him from the start. I love the soundtrack in this so much! Zaitsu is SO L and Light’s love child! Yes! I’m sticking with it! Also, Zaitsu and Kaido being SUCH the ship! My OTP! The 10 Year Time Skip is SO WILD and I was not ready for it! Ooohhh, now I’ll have to watch the English Dub! 😀Thank you for the recommendation! I really enjoyed watching these characters and their arcs throughout this! Zaitsu was so fascinating – I really want to see how the manga handles his character as well and to read his dialogue on the page. I’ve seen people in competition feed on stress, but it’s a REALLY hard edge to toe the line with – it would be so easy for it to backfire. But you are so right - it’s a super power for those that make it fuel them! I can’t do that! I agree, Zaitsu realizing he was wrong, or he thinks he is, was a cool change of character to explore in this. But yes, Kaido’s philosophy being on the other end of the spectrum (of course) was so interesting to break down as well. I really came to like his character a lot in this! Themes of Resistance! The fact that Shimoyama said this author is a philosophy major makes so much sense – you really could do a lecture with this movie! “Wonderfully campy” is such a fun phrase – I do love how very concrete while also being deep in their psyche these characters are as well. It’s complicated but on the surface, the characters are easy to relate and gravitate towards. OKAY SO ORB TALK – I’m not a fan of the last two episodes of Orb, but the rest of the season is a 10/10 for me, so I really can’t diss it. But I want to read the manga for that series as well, now. And yes, if Kaido won, that’d be so great at the end – allowing Togashi and Komiya to rekindle their relationship – I need to see more of the manga for this series, because the English translation so far is really nice and I’m so glad I found it while editing! Thank you for the comment and kind words! I’m so excited for this coming week!

Loved the reaction and discussion! This was such a fun ride of a film! Glad you didn't have to wait too long to get to see it. 🥰 Various things I loved: Komiya being a heart-breaking little bean from the start, his desperation as he was running, etc 😭 Togashi’s very “reasonable” child-logic about 100m fixing ANY possible issues, wouldn’t that be great 😆 The use of the soundtrack and sound effects in such tandem, I feel like it elevated so many moments. And then all the tiny details, like Togashi being able to hear Komiya’s panting while he was running even all the way from Togashi's room The idea of Zaitsu being L and Light’s love child - it fits so well 🤣 The shock when it showed the '10 years later' time skip, this was me watching it for the first time! The kids on that playground casually continuing their run after Togashi’s crash out 🤣 Zaitsu’s smile at Kaido’s win 🥰 Yeah, I think Kaido and Zaitsu are my main ship from this, as well Also, I definitely recommend the English dub, excellent quality and they’ve added some great flavour 🥰 Overall, I just really love the way the four main characters have such clear arcs in terms of their personal philosophies and any changes which happen within that. I was very interested in Zaitsu’s philosophy, as it sounds like something so alien to me personally – the idea of, in some way, ‘enjoying the anxiety’ he was feeling, or accepting it as just a fact of life and therefore letting it fuel him… To me that would so profoundly never work! 😆 To the extent that I wondered if he was misidentifying 'anticipation' as 'anxiety.' Because, damn, if there are people out there in the world who can enjoy actual “anxiety,” I swear that has to be a superpower. 😭 On the other hand, I think I could relate to Kaido’s philosophy the most – the idea of understanding one’s reality, knowing it needed to be accepted, and then escaping it by changing it through one’s own efforts. Also, really love Zaitsu’s later change in perspective, where he comes to the conclusion that he was so alone at the top that it ultimately meant his circumstances (emotionally) would have been no different to if he’d been last. There’s some unaddressed priviledge there, I feel, but I was also glad to hear that’s where he ended up, after his earlier 'we are a bundle of cells floating through space' spiel. 😆 Now, themes of resistance?! Enough to fill a Philosophy 101 module’s syllabus. 🤣(I say this affectionately). Especially love the characters presenting such individualised and distinct ways they were resisting their existential dread through largely self-inflicted struggles… for better and for worse! 😆 I think there was something so wonderfully campy about how absolute their unique approaches were, and all the ways they wanted to validate their identities or find structure or meaning or purpose. I think it did so well with distilling really complicated emotions into clear personal philosophies. I was a little apprehensive when I started the film, knowing it was adapted from Uoto’s work because the Orb ending (for me personally) really stumbled even though I loved the series. I was so pleasantly surprised! Don’t know about the manga, but hope it handles things similarly. For the film, love that it is essentially open to anyone’s headcanons – so I say Kaido won! 😆 And Togashi and Komiya rekindled their friendship. 🥰 Thank you for the manga review! 🥰 I had no idea any translation had appeared as back when I’d watched the film (at the very end of 2025), there hadn’t been anything available. I will look forward to any further reviews, if you choose to do any more. Thank you to Shimoyama for joining this commission! 🥰 Looking forward to the next entry! 💙
