Sorry for taking so long to get to this comment!
Yes, a transitional episode for sure!
Honestly, if Arata and Chihaya do not get to chat at the end of this season, it will be a major bummer for me as well.
Nishida’s sister is older?! Interesting! I could see that! But that’s cool to note!
Oh no, I don’t think Taichi has given up yet AT ALL. I’m rooting for him!!
He really does have the worst luck when it comes to things like this!
Yeaaaaahhhh, I don’t think Taichi will acknowledge Arata as a friend anymore, especially if he gets up to Class A – but honestly, I feel bad for Arata in this sense because he HAS NO CLUE. He thinks that him and Taichi are friends! It’s wild.
Shinobu just wants a friend…I really feel bad for her! 🙁I hope that Chihaya can reach her at some point!
And yeah, it’s so interesting that Arata idolizes those moments of their childhood together like Chihaya does – even if it was such a short amount of time.
Never apologize for a long comment! Y’all know how much I gab in this series!! Thank you so much for it!

This was defenitely a transitioning episode, I think, to go from the intense finals of the team matches to restarting the mounting tension for the individual matches. But, yeah, all the recap they did is not something that I loved either.
I have to say, for the first time it did frustrate me that Chihaya and Arata don't get to talk. They don't talk after Mizusawa wins nationals, which I really thought they were going to continue that conversation; and they also don't talk before the start of the individual matches, and that one really got me. I know that they were called to enter the room and get settled, yes, but I think in the middle of all the hubbub Chihaya and Arata could have taken a few minutes to catch up and talk a little bit, to say something certainly. But they don't. They better talk by the end of this season or I'll be really disappointed.
Did Nishida called his sister Anechan or did I imagine that? I really thought that his sister was younger than him! But, if he really did call her Anechan that would mean she is older than him, right? That's crazy.
At the end, while Retro-kun is so certain that Taichi has given up on the game and is now easy pickings I was repeteadly shaking my head, because I really hope (and I think) that Taichi hasn't given up yet. To me, his quiet, his questioning sounded more like he was focusing and centering himself, ready to take on the challenge and win.
If Taichi bodies the whole of class B and raises to class A I'll be incredibly happy. I hope he can do that.
Why is Taichi always asleep when Chihaya does these very romantic things?! He was asleep, too, when she rested his head on her shoulder, back in season 1, and now again doesn't see Chihaya laying down next to him to remember and think. The mangaka gives him one win, and takes something else from him in exchange.
Shinobu feels like a wild animal to me at the end of this episode. She had her weakness exposed - just acknowledge to herself with no one else privy to it - her deep, repressed wish for friendship and camaraderie, so now, she must bite and reestablish her dominance, that playing alone, that no one else can rise to her level, that she is alone because everyone else is just bad, and that makes it right. It's super interesting for her character, and makes me really want to see what she will think when she sees Chihaya playing with her left hand.
Gosh, I'll admit that Taichi declaring that Arata is his enemie took me by surprise. I mean, yes, we have known that Taichi has been jealous of Arata since the moment they met as kids, that he has felt threatened by Arata's closeness to Chihaya, but I really thought that after Taichi's little memory of Arata that he had a few episodes ago he was growing out of that insecurity and growing to miss his friend. Of course, it makes sense that it isn't that easy, but I had hoped to see Taichi and Arata becoming better friends and I don't think that will be happening with this new resolve Taichi seems to be getting.
You know what's a bit funny? That we have known for the longest time that Chihaya idolizes Arata and the memory she has of him, of the boy who taught her the sport that she loves so much and gave her her passion; but we can see in this episode that Arata is kind of on the same boat. When he mentions to Taichi that for him the only team he can be a part of is the one he form with Taichi and Chihaya I couldn't help but think that... they barely were a team. Yes, they practiced a ton together and all, but from what I remember and we saw, they played in ONE tournament together - the one with Arata sick and Chihaya almost refusing to attend because she knew that Arata was moving and Taichi was going to another school - and then they got separated; and yet, Arata has kept that memory precious in his mind, and with the short amount of time that they actually spent together and that they played together I'm sure that Arata views it in a very warm light cast by the nostalgia and colored by the view of a child, and making him idolize a time that was precious, but that we don't know would have actually worked with time. So, yeah, both Arata and Chihaya have this views of each other that might not be the most accurate because the time they spent together was precious but very ephemeral, and that is fascinating to me.
P.S. Sorry for the incredibly long comment, I really thought I wouldn't have much to say but it seems this episode left me thinking more than I was expecting.

What an interesting episode , I guess? The recap did happen in the manga but it wasn't as nearly as long. I think overall it's meant to be a moment for Chihaya to breathe and take in the win alongside Taichi but it was a miss moment for the anime but the Thank you she gives was cute. I understand your frustrations of Arata and Chihaya not communicating. These two just talking alone has been such a slow burn both of them had the opportunity to talk to each other back in season 1 and Arata admitted that he was a coward for having Taichi communicate on his behalf then Chihaya finally got comfortable talking to him on the phone because at first she was really nervous and sort of left Arata hanging. Now they're finally together and they keep getting interrupted before they get to talk or either Chihaya or Arata doesn't know what they want to say to the other. I trust that the mangaka will remedy this but I'm tearing out my hair in the meantime. This is reminding me of Yona of the dawn and how much of a slow burn Hak and Soowon was in just getting to talk but completely different situation. I'm glad that Arata and Taichi kinda got to talk and I do feel for Taichi he clearly doesn't do well with change but hopefully by the time they graduate he somehow sorts out his jealousy and complicated feelings easier said than done. I think it's fine if in a healthy mindset Taichi as a character just doesnt want to be nostalgic and for those reasons respect that Chihaya and Arata may want to team up but he doesn't but clearly he is jealous and that's why hes drawing the line. The recap aside Chihaya lying down next to Taichi was cute. Now that we've become alot more attached to several characters I'm like you checking to see who is playing who and curious as to what's going on in each match. Retro acting like Sudos henchman is so funny. I really want Taichi to win Class B and for Chihaya to do her best even though I doubt she will win.
