*FOREIGN HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

The Nationals are underway for the second time in the series, but our crew is NOT the same as it was in season 1, and they are realizing it themselves already! As they face off against a colorful and unique opponent in the first round, Chihaya's team is already taking steps to put them in a more prepared place than last year...and a surprise encounter leaves me on a cliffhanger where it's going to be hard not to watch ahead!

CHIHAYAFURU Season 2: Episode 8 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

I really enjoyed this episode to start off Nationals for us! It was a great way to compare and contrast our group from last year’s nationals to now! That point about appreciating each other is so good to point out! I can SO see the Nekoma and Karasuno dynamic with this! Yes! It’s refreshing to get that in the series! I would love to see this crew again, too! Hahaha!! Luffy in Chihayafuru? Taichi would be in a pool of despair hahaha! I love Sumire with her little pink notebook! And for her to be like Tsutomu and following him to gather research - I would have never expected it! I love she’s “learning the ropes” from everyone in different ways! 🙂And it highlights Tsutomu growing so much as a character, too! I love it for him, too! And AHAHAHA The YURI WILL NOT GO UNNOTICED! XD *ahem* I’m excited to see where this goes! Arata is so mysterious but yeah, the last time he showed up, Taichi was a wreck…so….let’s see how that goes, I suppose! And then Shinobu jump scares! I love how this show gives us so much mystery, but at the same time…the cliffhangers are killer! Thank you for the comment!

Oohh, thank you for the VA information! He was a great character to introduce into this! There were lots of cute behind the scenes moments in this episode, too! :3 Tsutomu’s growth is so fun to see in this episode! I love how everyone is growing as characters in this! I really hope that Taichi does well in the group and individual tournament - it just depends on how much the mangaka wants to torture him, haha! Thank you for the comment!

This was the cutest episode, indeed! Having this super sweet team be the first ones that Misuzawa plays against, with all their passion and unrefinedness immediately flipped any expectation I had of this tournament; there really is no better way to rinse the palette from the previous national tournament. One aspect that I loved about this match is how much they all seemed to appreciate each other. Up to this point, it has felt, naturally as if we are comfronting rivals with each game. Sure, they are important rivals that we manage to learn from and have some fun while playing, but it's still that core antagonistic relationship that shines with all of them. Until now, because this game reminded me a lot of the dynamic that Karasuno and Nekoma have in Haikyuu; a rival team that is much more of a friend than anything else; just good friends that we compete with not to see who is better but because it's so much fun to help each other be the best. And I love that dynamic for them. That is to say, I really hopw we get to see these Chiba kids again, because I think that the relationship that they can develop with Misuzawa can be a lot of fun if explored more. Every time I hear Nishida say that the Chiba kids are playing "freely", I can only picture Luffy in my head xD For their first match, though, this was a really good way to get our kids to appreciate all the different ways that you can play Karuta, and sharpen their own skills for the matches to come. Sumire having a little notebook, all pink and cute, ready when Tsutomu tells her to help him collect intel was such a great moment. We saw in the Interhighs how she, of her own volition, went out there to gather some intel and help the team even if she wasn't playing, and now it seems she is still determine to take on that role for the team, even if she does complain when Tsutomu tells her, as she was prepare to really note down details this time around. Tsutomu's character develpment is so good to see. Going from a guy who wanted to quit because he wasn't at the level of the other, more seasoned, players, and really needing that incentive to play at first; and now, he is willingly giving his spot because he just wants to see the team do the best they can and he sees other ways he can help. Love it. THAT YURI MOMENT WITH SUMIRE DIDN'T PASS UNNOTICED BY ME! And now she will watch Megumi play and just have to pay close attention so she can help her team, oh no xD My goodness, Arata is coming! And that has me pretty excited, but also nervous, becuase the last time Arata showed up without notice he threw poor Taichi for a loop and wreaked his concentration. Hopefully he is better now, and this will be nothing but a happy reunion. Shinobu showing up like a demon and just holding Arata down has to be one of the funniest darn scenes ever. But it does beg the question, what is Sinobu doing here? I really doubt she has a team to compete with, and as far as I understand it individual matches don't start for a few days yet... was she just hoping to catch Arata? Was she waiting there the whole time? Because that just makes that scene even funnier.

Anthony is voiced by Miki Shinichiro who voices Shimada in Sangatsu no lion I knew I heard that deep calming voice somewhere. I love how pure Anthony is and this was a great start to Nationals. I love the tiny details of Kana Chihaya and Taichi being the only ones not really being concerned about them being foreigners but what they were thinking was so them. I also love the detail that Taichi was in the background instructing Chihaya as to how to write the lovely message they had in English. That whole scene was cute. Tsutomu has grown so much and you said that Nishida Taichi and Chihaya were the backbone of the team but honestly Tsukuba from the s1 finale till now has grown to be a backbone as well. Kana is the emotional/mental backbone. Tsukuba is such a refreshing presence on the team because of how mischievous he is but he means well and the team especially Nishida Taichi and Tsutomu do acknowledge that in their own way. I think Sumire while she hasnt fully settled in yet is definitely more serious and driven at the moment than Tsukuba and I cant wait to see how that pays off. I will give Taichi credit that he has grown alot due to Chihaya's influence and it was funny that he started to worry a little then he was like you know what I'll put her aside for now I think he's finally learning that even when he doesnt get whats going on with Chihaya he can leave her alone and she will snap back to reality. Sending all my energy that Taichi does well in the individual tournament even though he has determined that no matter what happens he'll be fine with it.
