CHIHAYAFURU Season 2: Episode 7 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*MOTIVATIONAL HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

The Qualifiers are over and our crew are going to Nationals, but not before some "personal housekeeping" and practice! Chihaya hits a slump and an unlikely source or two shows up to perk our girl back into her optimistic, charging attitude! This was such a fun episode to talk about!

Thanks! I appreciate that!

Hello Alexandra, Is it possible to please edit the sentence about the mangaka not throwing a bone to Taichi in the end ? I know you are theorizing, but knowing Romania, she may read more into it so let’s just change the phrasing if you don’ t mind 😁 Thanks a lot

Oh, this episode was nothing like what I thought we would get, but I loved it so much! When Chihaya first started talking about allowing the Music Club to use the second level as storage for their instruments, I thought the angle was going to be how they need to learn to be able to play with distractions, as we saw was something that Nishida struggled with; but, nope, it was something completely different and so out of pocket that I feel only Chihaya could have come up with xD The Poor Music Club teacher just casually hanging in the background doing his copies had me laughing so hard, I gotta say. As much as I think that Taichi and Chihaya are very similar, what with both always getting too in their heads at games, I think this episode highlighted another of their differences, aside from Taichi being a pessimist and Chihaya an optimist, but the fact that Chihaya is very much a gambler at heart, willing to take risks, and Taichi will play it safe unless pushed otherwise, both in games and their personal lives; and, I mean, you mention it too, with how Taichi is just sort of waiting for Chihaya to fall into his lap suddendly in love with him and he isn't acting, taking risks to help himself. I love these little comparisions that happen almost seamlessly between different characters through the show. Speaking of the difference between been frenzied and impassionate I'm reminded of this other anime that I'm currently watching; it talks about the concept of rushing vs taking the necessary time to move. They use this concept in music, how you count the beat as "one, two, three, four" to move on and how that can lead to rushing; and instead, how it's good to better count enphasizing the *and*, "one AND two AND three AND four" to move, using the "and" for a bried respite to set the movement and not rush it, so that all movement is precise and clean and clear. I think it's something that can be applied in Karuta as well, specially for Chihaya who relies so much on her speed, but now also wants to focus on precision with that speed; to be fast, yes, but taking a second to set het next movement so that it may flow seamlessly. I loved Sumire saying that the rules of this love was to be serious about Karuta. I love that she is essentially the same character, just that her focus has changed slightly and that makes all the difference. Because, yes, joining something only because of a boy is a shallow move, but doing that thing seriously and as best as you can makes that move have much more weight; and I love that for her. That dichotomy is really fun to see. Chihaya is becoming more and more aware of Arata. Sumire asking if there was anyone that she often thought about and that she wanted to see again felt like a moment where Chihaya realized that she might like Arata; which I also think is a bit unfair for Taichi because of course Chihaya will think about her dear childhood friend who introduced her to something she now loves so much and is so far away from her. Agh, if only Taichi did something I think the playing field would be equal for Chihaya to realize she likes someone, or no one xD At least Chihaya is clear that she likes Shinobu a ton xD The whole bit with Chihaya's parents really throws a new light on things... but I'm still a bit bitter at them for how they treated Chihaya till now. I get maybe focusing more on the child that you deemed more fragile, but I think they didn't throw even the bare minium effort Chihaya's way until now. I'll forever be reminded of her dad only now starting a scrapbook on her, and that's not something that I think would have taken too much time and taken away their focus on supporting Chitose; or giving Chihaya a bit of attention as she talks about Karuta instead of immediately focusing on Chitose when she comes into the picture (as I distinctily remember them doing that one time when she called about having won her first Karuta tournament when she was just a tiny kid). I don't doubt they love their daughter, but I also think they have indeed failed at balancing their parenting between their two daughters. I did love her mom getting her the kimono. That was a nice move, despite everything. And now we're back at Nationals, somehow! I can't wait to see what happens in them this time around.

I must commend your attention to certain details because the whole gambler line flew over my head and in rewatching the series with you and others who have recently picked up this series I was like wow the idea of Chihaya being a gambler and Taichi needing to take on that advice was more important than I realized for both karuta and the love triangle.
