I walked into this movie knowing NOTHING - not even that it's one of the highest grossing Korean films...but now I know why!
This film was a DELIGHT! A hilarious action-comedy that surprised me so much and in the best ways! Sunspots, thank you! You definitely know how to pick them and this was such an enjoyable ride...rooster crows and fried chicken will never be the same!

Thank you so much! I really loved this movie!! Whiteboard-kun’s cousins really deserved some recognition in this, didn’t they? Hahaha, this movie was such a fun chaotic romp and I loved it so much once I realized we were all in on the fun and the joke with them! Hahaha – DID YOU commission this because of Sunhee and Jang?! I don’t blame you if you did, haha!! I agree that I would watch an entire series of this group and adventures with them or a prequel for them all, etc.! I really like where this film took us with all the characters and I was rooting for them all by the end of it! The climax was just SO FUN and I really loved it. SO many themes of resistance indeed! I love how they really were the underdogs and took what made them “fail” in the police force and used it to their advantage by the end. Definitely some lessons to be taken from that! We love a rag tag group of underdogs who can pull it together by the end! <3 And yes, they really started out dour but by the end of the movie were so lovable and relatable! I really need to try Korean Fried Chicken! Maybe that will make me a believer!! Thank you for the comment and yesssss, so excited for October’s commissions!

This was a delight and I’m really happy to see you had such a great time with this little struggle squad! 🥰 Various things I loved: The boy-band squad getting everything they deserved Ko struggling with having to eat all that chicken Whiteboard-kuns getting attention 😆 “... would shower at night” - can now enter the lexicon 😂 The combination of them being a disaster and competent, and all played for laughs so well – like them having multiple vests to cover different utility companies, etc Jaehoon in the final fight as a feral puppy 😆 Did I commission this just because of Sunhee and Jang? I mean… I plead the fifth. 🤣 I find a lot of Korean films play with all sorts of tones in a single work in really interesting and fun ways. What you spoke of regarding getting permission from the film to laugh and not knowing exactly what the tone was at the beginning is a very standard experience, I feel. So I’m really glad this one worked for you! 🥰 And I love that at the very climax of the absurdity is when we get the reveals of who they truly are in terms of their ‘status.’ I would absolutely watch a full series of their misadventures. In terms of themes of resistance? 😆 Always, of course. And I think one of the most interesting layers was the entire positioning of their potential “incompetence” against institutional pressure and societal expectations. As well as presentations of what is and isn’t success and prestige. They “fail” as police, face internal and external (e.g. from Ko’s wife) judgement towards them being restaurant workers, then find great success. They resist very rigid expectations of what is appropriate for their ‘social class’ and do so through solidarity. The way they all supported each, covered and corrected for each other’s mistakes, all while not being swayed from their actual mission. They may have been a bit of a disaster squad but they were able to get their shit together when it counted. Another thing that I find wonderful is the fact that they were all really loveable throughout. We don’t need a cast of arseholes for something to be funny! I do have to recommend trying specifically Korean fried chicken, the way it is prepared is extra delicious! 🥰 Cannot wait for all the October commissions! 💙
