Chihayafuru Season 2: Episode 1 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

I really wasn’t expecting this start to the season, either, but I’m so on board as well! Kana knows how to market and I love it! YES! I love Chihaya here! She’s so sweet and her energy is infectious! I love that she’s considering what she wants and right now, it’s that she wants to get further into Karuta and wants others to love it as well! And ooohhhh, that connection to Kuroo! I LOVE that and so see it, too! 😀 I love Chihaya as a coach in this - and that she wants to help after she graduates! Sumire is such an interesting character so far! Hahaha I know you’re a hardcore Taichi/Chihaya shipper and so valid! I think she’s at least going to give Taichi a run for his money! Or at least test him in more way than one! I love how Sumire had that moment of connection with the poetry! Yesss, I love that for her! I like the idea of the arc set up for everyone - that’s a great point! I agree about having room for both takes so I’m excited to see where we go with this series! Thank you so much for the comment!

Oh, we're back! This first episode of the season was NOT what I was expecting but I loved it so much. I certainly laughed a ton. Kana setting the scheme of promoting the club by letting everyone see the two most attractive members is quite the dubious and calculated move, and I love that for her. She might be all about the rules and being proper, but she is not above being a little bit dubious to get her way. I LOVED Chihaya in this episode so much. She loves Karuta so much, and wants to do what's best for the club, not just herself, to make these kids love karuta as much as she does; and now, she's also fighting for it, for everyone to have their best time with karuta. i hope this means that she is realizing that maybe being queen is not exactly her dream, even if she still really wants to get there because that means that she gets to fight the best person at karuta, someone that loves the sport as much as she does, but that she just loves karuta so much and wants everyone else to love it as well. Honestly, she reminded me a bit of Kuroo from Haikyuu in that sense. Yes! Chihaya is acting like a coach, and she even said that she wants to come back after graduating and coaching the karuta club. I am obsessed with that idea because I think it suits her so well. I think she has the passion and love to be a great teacher/coach, and experience can help her fill in the blanks as well as some classes on teaching. I think Chihaya is nurturing enough for that to work really well for her, and would be an awesome development for her character. Sumire is a character that I was ready to not like when we first see her but ended up loving so much in the end. While I don't know if I ship her with Taichi just yet (I'm still a hard core Taichi/Chihaya shipper), though you made compelling points; I think it'll be fun and interesting to see how her interest plays with Taichi's fixation on Chihaya. My favorite moment of the episode was Sumire reading that poem and having a deeply personal moment. Because, YES, that's what poetry is about, and what karuta helps you connect to. Seeing all the different goals that the current members of the club have is, in my opinion, a great way to set up their arcs for the season. Will they come around Chihaya's view of things and be more team players? Or will they double down on their own ambitions and play more individualistic? Funnily enough, karuta gives room for both takes, as it's as much a team sport as it is a solo one, and that is an interesting dynamic to explore.

Also, Taichi saying “you have a lot of choices” to Sumire is an indirect phrase of “I'm not interested with you” Yes, Japanese like indirect phrases, especially in saying “No”

At first, I got so confused how Sports Karuta is different from Shougi/Igo because they value manner well but differently For example, in Shougi/Igo, the loser has to say “I lost to you” to the winner In Sports Karuta, both of players have to say thank you at the same time In Sports Karuta, there's no Kamiza, upper sheet, and Shimoza, inferior sheet They are equally competitors In Shougi/Igo, there are Kamiza and Shimoza, but usually they are not determined yet The person who comes early sits Shimoza and waits to the other come However, the sheets are clearly designated Usually the title holder sits Kamiza And so on But now I got used to Sports Karuta and I'm getting to love it I'm fascinated by Chihaya's dream BTW, this chour, Chihayahuru Meguri weekly drama, which is the story of 10 years later of Manga story is aired The story itself is independent from manga The whole story is the filler But the actors who acts in the movie show up and the story the mangaka defined is passed down to the director, the producer, and the audience Chihayahuru is still ongoing project and I cherish its momentum
