WORD OF HONOR: Episode 32 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*BEWILDERING HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

This episode was...well...it was a LOT, and that's really all I can say about it without getting in too deep, but let's just say I was FLOORED by some of the happenings in this episode, where characters go, how we're here ALREADY, and I have many a theory as to where we go from here...but...I'll let the reaction and discussion speak for itself this week!

WORD OF HONOR: Episode 32 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

WKX DEFINITELY gets the fierceness from his mother and I love his robes in this episode are in the same color pallette. It was really sad to see ChengLing and WKX’s confrontation. I really need to see the novel’s version of all this so hopefully it gets the moment it deserves. I LEGIT thought that ZJ was going to pull that sword out at any moment and strike someone, which would have been fully in line with his character. “Justice on the lips, betrayal at the back” is SUCH. A. GOOD. PHRASE. I love that! The moment that the two of them meet each other and ZZS tells him to “save it” and stands alongside him? My heart! We DESERVED a kiss, honestly! And then Boomer Uncle YBY comes in – at least he’s consistently in character. T_T The “death” scene with WKX was set up really well, but I just needed more time to digest CHL getting to that moment - it just was too rushed for me in this episode, so I hope the novel gives me more development with that; we shall see! The entire dinner scene with all of them together with ZJ is so wild! I was just mortified and theory-crafting throughout it. ZZS’s horror at realizing it all wasn’t a dream is heartbreaking. The Alluring Ghost was so beautiful in that one scene, indeed! Poor ZZS seeing him…and then they crush us with a montage! T-T There’s still a lot left to go but thank you for the comment and kind words! Onwards and upwards!

PACING: The Episode! XD Indeed! I’m glad that I’m not the only one who was confused by this episode, so thank you for saying that! It wasn’t a “hard” watch, because I know now about the pacing and budget, but I can’t imagine someone watching this without that knowledge and feeling okay about it. I “get” Chengling’s mindset, but I’m really hoping the novel fleshes it out more because it was just too rushed in this episode, especially with what’s going to happen next week and the whiplash of it all. Hahaha!! The best scene is definitely ZZS coming to defend WKX - hands down! I love it! I love your description - it was basically my reaction, too from the episode and discussion - but yeah, this “Save it” line just gets me! It’s just so good! And that makes a lot more sense of why ZZS looked serene; he thought they’d go down in flames together, only for YBY to rescue JUST him. Also, agree 100%- Zhan Zehan acted SO good in this! Again, the Master Fang thing makes sense, but it’s just soooooo rushed that it felt slopped. They just needed, like I noted in the episode, more time to flesh this all out for it to not feel clunky writing-wise or cliche, but I understand that they just didn’t have the episodes to lay that foundation, which is a shame, but *again* Hopefully the novel handles it better. XD *sweats* The best “visual” of the episode is by far The Alluring Ghost in the mourning robes throwing the funeral paper! And yes, ZZS and the encounter with WKX’s corpse was so well done in this! And that’s a good point about no spiritual force - I hadn’t thought about that! @.@ Hmmm, we’ll see about this when I watch Episode 34 hahaha! But yeah, the montage was just CRUEL! Ohhh, you didn’t have to explain the extended scene you sent me to react to, haha! I would have found out when I reacted to it! But thanks for the explanation so there’s no confusion. I guess I’ll see when I get to it. Thanks for the comment and kind words!

Pacing issues and Pain : THE EPISODE First of all, the confusion and frustration at this episode is rather general and universal .... how could it not be when we do some crazy transition without a breather nor an explanation It's completely normal and valid that you feel frustrated This episode is really hard to watch, not necessarily because of the pacing issues because I resolved myself to give the team leeway and accept that this is the best they could do with what they have, but it was rough seeing our little found family tear each other a part ZZX and WKX in one side and YBY and CL 😭 honestly i was equally mad at CL for what he did but I understood his mindset ... The boy saw his whole sect being slaughtered and later developped a bond with WKX as the cool uncle WEN (the one he went to always for hugs first and the one that told him bedtime stories), so to learn that he was the one that caused his tragedy is a double betrayal for ChengLing Chengling is essentially in the same spot WKX was in just until some time ... full of rage, full of anger at the ones that killed or were the reason his parents got killed.... And as ZZS said to WKX : when he learns the truth you ll have to take it.... and unfortunately, WKX did take it in his flesh Now let's talk about the most romantic scene in the most unromantic scenery : ZZS coming to defend and help his husband and stand with him against the world (because yeah in my head I declared them husband and husband after the hairpin scene 😁😂), .... ZZS,The man that wanted to stay under the radar until his last moment comes disguising himself, is openly defying and fighting the martial arts world publicly and not afraid to do so . ZZS comme to stand in WKX face ( too closely teasing us 😅) and looking at him like he hung the moon will always be in my top 3 ZZS moments, because his eyes conveyed so much , they tell WKX that he is here for him and that he loves him, they tell him to drop the act because he won't let him face this alone...they simply tell him that : The world isn't important, only my Soulmate is... if you die, I die too !! That explains why the moment WKX went off the cliff, ZZS has a serene face and jumped without any hesitation, if he can save him so be it, but if he can't then they ll go out together... IT LITERALLY BROKE my heart to pieces, when ZZS woke up and thought for mere second that all of it was a dream, he gets that little relieved smile just for it to be shattered after hearing that indeed , the Chief of Ghost Valley is dead which let him to some extreme decisions later on in the ep ... such wonderful acting from ZHAN ZEHAN Master Fang rejecting Gu Xiang when he was sweet to her since the beginning made me so sad too ... But I understood where he came from even if it saddens me greatly Master FANG was already angry upon seeing evil people like SK being honored in the banquet despite all the wrongdoings they did . He is a sweet man but also a very righteous master (just like YBY, rigid is the word) who stands againt *Evil* as per the Gentle wind sect teachings ... he saw his disciples and brothers being slaughtered by scorpions and Ghosts .. of course he hates them both. He even confronted his Master about his connections to the evil partners (which takes a lot of bravery to question a sect leader decisions. Master Fang felt betrayed because not only GX is a ghost, but one that breached the sect and caused his dearest disciple CWN to desert the sect without any explanation. That being said, he was mean with words but didn't want them to be physically harmed as shown when his purposefully misdirected the soldiers when asked where are the intruders 🥺 I want to believe he still has some affection in his heart for them. Beauty Ghost was eerily beautiful in that white robe of mourning and tossing the joss paper. SK giving her permission to tend to the corpse is maybe his way to honor his pact with WKX Again, ZZ portraying the heartbreak of ZZS when he saw WKX 's dead corpse is masterful...I guess he had a tiny hope but seeing it with his eyes makes is real for him (especially that with his martial arts he can sence the spiritual force of someone in front of him like we saw it through the story, so seeing a WKX without any spiritual force was the nail in the coffin for him -pun intended-... Now they didn't need to give us a montage of WENZHOU, why twist the knife show, why ??, ZZS monologue shows how deep he understand WKX's feelings, and the decision he took shows how much he loved him . ZZS deciding to pull out the nails ( it's shown in the extended version that I will send you) is basically speeding up his death by breaking his meridians (as explained in the ep) and using Wu Xi's elixir to push during that time... But again : The World is not important , only His soulmate is 😭 And finally, seeing YBY without his smirk, with his true self, reminiscing abour his action, having doubts, complaining to HIS dead soulmate was a very emotional moment for me... This man is still grieving the death of Rong senior..we see you YBY, you are a romantic with a grumpy grandpa facade 🥰 Loved the reaction and discussion as always, for such a confusing episode, you ve delivered such a great discussion ..

Totally agree about the robe change. Such a shame we didn’t get to see it, because those robes are gorgeous, especially alongside Zhou Zi Shu’s. The symbolism is interesting too: Wen Kexing’s words may be sharp, but his robes are a calm blue. A striking contrast to his Ghost Valley Chief red. And though darker in shade, I love that he’s wearing the same color as his mother’s robes. He may flash a hint of that fierceness, but here he’s not the Chief—he’s his parents’ son, demanding justice. And then he sees Cheng Ling… It’s heartbreaking, seeing how far he’s come. From losing his entire family and trusting no one, to slowly letting Zhou Zi Shu and Wen Kexing in, forming bonds that became everything to him. To then discover that one of the people he trusted most was tied to his family’s death? The mix of grief, anger, and confusion must be unbearable. Without Zhou Zi Shu to steady him or Wen Kexing to hear him out, he’s left facing it all alone. And confronting Wen Kexing in front of a hostile crowd would only fuel that rage I imagine... And that sword behind Zhao Jing’s back? Freaking terrifying! Honestly, it’s the perfect symbol of who he is. Putting on this front of righteousness, while hiding a blade ready to strike the second you’re useless. It’s exactly who he shows himself to be later, saying he’ll kill Scorpion King once he’s done with him. Classic Zhao Jing—justice on the lips, betrayal at the back. Oh my god! Zhou Zi Shu had no business walking up to Wen Kexing like that. Sir, why is invading his personal space your full-time job? And if you’re gonna get that close...where’s the kiss? We earned it! No matter the chaos, Ye Bai Yi stays true to form: here to kill Wen Kexing. Honestly… what a comfort. Everything’s falling apart, but Bai Yi’s murder plans? Rock solid. *cries in the corner.* I think we can cut Cheng Ling some slack as he did have to shoot through Bai Yi’s literal waterfall wall, haha! Honestly, the emotions in that cliff scene... I believe Wen Kexing and Zhou Zi Shu aren’t just falling. They’re choosing to face death together, completely devoted, completely at peace with the idea of dying by their soulmate’s side. It’s tragic, yes, but if you look past the heartbreak it’s also achingly beautiful. That look Scorpion King gives Zhao Jing while everyone’s laughing feels like the push behind Alluring Ghost’s actions later—like he’s already wondering if Zhao Jing would be just as ruthless with him. And then Zhao Jing’s all, ‘Being supreme leader doesn’t matter… ’ right after Scorpion King's toast. But when he’s talking to ‘Peng Ju’ (aka Alluring Ghost), it’s clear he does care about that Window of Heaven connection, which could get him the supreme leader title. Funny how that works out… I love how they use the camera tilt as Zhou Zi Shu realizes it’s not a dream. That disorienting angle perfectly captures the dizzying anxiety and the feeling of your world collapsing around you. I think the scene where Zhao Jing and everyone is celebrating, and Ye Bai Yi comments on the Scorpion King successfully luring out Wen Kexing, actually gives more context to the earlier conversation between Wen Kexing and the Scorpion King. It shows that Zhao Jing already knew they had met and the Scorpion King set up the trap to draw Wen Kexing out. Fan Huaikong’s clearly worried about Cao Weining being tricked by Gu Xiang, but even in his anger, he helps her in the end by sending the guards away instead of leading them to her. At least there’s that... *Cries in another corner.* And then they break our hearts with Zhou Zi Shu seeing Wen Kexing… I appreciate that Alluring Ghost is the one burning the mourning papers. It fits well, since they were closest to being friends in the ghost valley. (Also, she looks stunning in white!) And Zhou Zi Shu, hearing Gu Xiang and immediately rushing to help… it feels like he’s taking responsibility for her now that Wen Kexing is gone. And of course, they had to hit us with all those flashbacks… It feels so far away, like we’ve truly been along for their whole journey. Zhou Zi Shu finally realizing the suffering Wen Kexing endured—only now, after losing what’s most precious to him—makes it such a powerful moment. Instead of drowning in despair like after the disciples from Four Seasons Manor all die, he channels it into anger, determined to fulfill Wen Kexing’s wish for revenge. The Ye Bai Yi scene with the smoke at the door is so eerie, like someone’s there in the fog. It really shows why he vowed to destroy Ghost Valley if they caused trouble. The irony’s brutal with Wen Kexing as Chief, given Ye Bai Yi’s ties and that Wen’s father died for his disciple—a tangled web of loyalty and history.
