The Rule of 8 never lets us down and OH, did this episode raise my blood pressure! In the aftermath of last episode, Hikaru may not be as indestructible as he once was...which is a problem, when a could-be exorcist is close on your trail!
Amidst the search for clues and answers, Hikaru and Yoshiki are closer to danger than ever before and the twists and turns of this episode had me about out of my seat! Let's GO!

The worldbuilding is sooooo good, I agree! I am curious with the name, so hopefully we get some confirmation with that at least at the end of this series! That’s a GREAT note about the translation changing! Yesssss…*puts on tinfoil hat* And yeah, I want to know more about the village as well - I need backstory info so hopefully we get some of that in the future as well! I may have to talk about that theory with the humans…I’m not sure with that, but again, I have hope and faith the series will talk to us more about it by the end of the season. And yeah, Hikaru not being able to do what Rie did…is WILD and nerve-wracking, indeed! And yesss, Yoshiki being a “monster” lover with Hikaru tying to his love of animals SO TRACKS, especially with the cat and the baby bird! LOVE. IT. And Hikaru is not subtle – yeah, I want to hug them both and at the same time…I cannot with them, either, haha! Tanaka is the BIGGEST character mystery so far, so I’m hopeful we’ll learn more about him before the end of the season, but thank you so much for the comment, the kind words, and the support! I feel this crosses over with Orb and that series as well in a way! ^^ Thank you for taking the time to explain that - it’s really interesting! Language is SUCH a wild thing, isn’t it?! And yes, Yoshiki is seriously THE emo MC at this point. It’s his style and his life and we can just respect it…and hope he gets a hug or SOMETHING. But yes, at least his immediate family (including the dad in a weird way) and friends accept and love him for it. Thank you for the comment and all the information!

I am also wondering about the naming difference between "unuki" and "nouki" - my current theory is that maybe the name changed during the village split/famine? Maybe those who called it a cursed god took on a particular name to differentiate it from how they worshipped it before? If that makes any sense? 😭 I only really thought of it when Yoshiki started to talk about how Kubitachi used to have different characters used in its name "neck" and "cut"..😭 But maybe its also 2 different spirits ?? IDK! I'm gonna have to study that map and the names! 😭 The way the villages are spread out like a body is very interesting.. is it coincidental or purposeful? Did the naming come before or after the village was built? I'm so interested in the village history and I wanna know more badly! I love all the unreliable narrators in this story, it's good for the mystery! Another theory, when Asako was talking about the increased human violence activity, it made me wonder if spirits are copying Hikaru, trying to occupy human bodies like he is, but are unable/not powerful enough to remain "stable" like Hikaru is? Just a speculative thought! As much as I LOVE the show of trust, loyalty and love, Hikaru displayed when giving half of himself to Yoshiki, I'm really nervous about him not being at full power 😭 He just got outranked by the power of Aunty Rie! That's another thing I've also gotten the impression of too: Yoshiki seems to have a soft spot for animals! I can only see snippets, but I think of the first episode with the darter dragonflies, that time he let a beetle crawl on him (ep 3 i think that was?), in ep 7 when he was watching baby chicks video with Hikaru during the montage, the fat white cat he's trying to help Hikaru befriend, and now this "Hamster." I wonder if the hamster's big eyes reminded him of Hikaru's puppy look 😭 (AND YEAH the way Hikaru was looking at Yoshiki in the library, resting his palm against his face... boy... goop thing... You Are Not Subtle 😭😭 AND HIKARU'S PUPIL DILATING when Yoshiki said he'd shoulder the sin with him... I can't with them.. My poor heart..) I love that you called out narrative foils of Tanaka and Rie, I didn't think of it like that before! It's interesting too, since you could say they are both also influencing adults in these youths' lives. I LOVE the theory that tanaka sees via the hamster, even if it turns out wrong, it will still be a headcanon of mine now! It's too good!

2025-09-10 03:01:46 +0000 UTCI live in Poland in Silesia region and we have our own, silesian dialect/language here that is quite different from standard polish. I'm 30 AND i usually use proper polish instead of silesian and still sometimes my friends from different regions of Poland sometimes asks what some word I said mean because I didn't know its a silesian word instead of polish word lmao. Especially because a lot of them arent similar at all. I can relate a little bit to Yoshiki with his not talking with a proper dialect, because my father was 100% silesian and talked silesian but died when I was 8, when my mothers family is from lubelszczyzna instead of śląsk (śląsk means silesia) and my mom speaks a mix between silesian and polish or switch between silesian and polish dependably who she talks to. Thats why I rather talk without and characteristic accenct or use a random silesian words when I talk istead of using full silesian, even if I understand full silesian without a problem. Just I'm not used to using it myself because I was mostly raised by my mother and grandmother from her side. Thats just some digression from me towards the topic of dialect. Sinse you are interested in that topic I thought I may share some of my story there. Silesian dialect/language has its own page on wikipedia if you would be interested to read some word or two about it! "Yoshiki never stop being emo" Is literally me whole series. Like there arfe some emo main characters, but usually because they are traumatised, depressed, hated, abused or something. When Yoshiki sure, is depressed, have complicated relatonship with his father and all, but he is also emo for the sake of a game. Like thats HIS STYLE your honor! and his friends and mother and sister loves and accepts him with all of his dark emo persona.

Them talking in the library about how the god went from being one that gives blessings to one that gives curses made me think of XL from TGCF. (Spoilers to anyone else reading if you haven’t read or watched TGCF) How XL goes from being worshipped for giving blessings and strength, to being despised for plagues and bad luck, to being a weaker scrap collecting god. If whatever is possessing Hikaru is going through similar changes, then maybe being in Hikaru counts as his scrap collecting phase :P
