OH NO - I hate when things like that get accidentally erased; thank you for going back and re-writing it! And yay! I’m so excited for someone to be going in blind with me! 😀 I feel I’ve heard of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos series from somewhere in the zeitgeist. I was into stars and the planets a lot as a kid, too! Oohhh, the block universe as a loaf of bread feels like something in Steins;Gate if you’re watching that! ;) That’s hilarious about the garbage and husband’s use with the block universe. The idea of how religion and power dynamics worked hand in hand is wild in medieval times…certainly not applicable now…at all…*sips tea* Luckily, I didn’t have to take Calculus (only made it to pre-calc and have forgotten all from that part of my senior year in high school)! That is insanely cool about pruny fingers gripping wet things easier! So cool! I love that part of your comment! I have three grandfathers/great-grandfathers/great-great-grandfathers (from different family sides) that were preachers and for different reasons, so I’ve felt a connection to it, but I started reading the bible mainly so I could feel I had the authority to talk about it. But YEAH, Book of David is my favorite of the Old Testament so far and I’m on Isaiah, but ready for the New Testament when I get to it! XD BUT YES, I actually STARTED with The Last Battle – that was the first book I read after I watched The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe movie - I got it at a book fair because there was a unicorn on the cover, not realizing I was reading the last book first! But then, I actually never went and read the other books in the series, because I was spoiled on the overall ending, hahaha!! But I know now they are somewhat separate books in the series. Still. So yeah, I totally feel you with your story, here! Thank you for the link and for the pronunciation information! Will try, but it’s one of my weak points, as y’all know. And no rush but I’m so glad you’re getting into this show, it definitely seems up your alley! 😀Thank you for the comment and kind words! AND YES, CHAOS IS BEAUTIFUL! That’s such a cool link!

Ok, this is my second time writing this because I accidentally erased what I wrote! 🤦‍♀️ I am going in blind with you! I just bought the first 4 volumes of the manga and I will shoehorn it into my schedule! I learned basic cosmology as a child from watching Carl Sagan’s series “Cosmos”. I consider myself a very amateur physics and astronomy enjoyer. When I say child, I must have been around 7 or 8. This shaped how I thought of time, the earth and the universe itself. So, this is right up my alley! As an example, as a kid, I thought of a block universe as a loaf of bread. It has slices which represent time. It has a beginning (the past) and you can take those slices out and look at them or experience them. It also has an end, (the future) and you can take them out and look at them. As a whole, it is a loaf of bread and all the slices exist at the same time. So, both the paste and future exist at once…. That is s block universe. This is also the same excuse Husband uses when something happens, it was always going to happen because it already did. It still doesn’t excuse the garage not being taken out. I totally agree with what you say about the authority of the Church. At this time, most if not all scholars were very religious. To be educated was to be part of the power dynamic that the church was. Most scholars were trying to prove God by trying figuring out the order they observed around them. So, when a person who had a passion for truth and beauty only to discover that it contradicts what you had been taught by the church, heresy! All human knowledge is build on previous knowledge and many did die for that knowledge. Remember, Isaac Newton was veeeeerrrrryyyyy religious! And now high school kids can blame him for calculus homework. Yes, you can grip things without nails. We grab with the whirls of our finger prints. In fact, when our fingers get pruny when wet, it helps to grab wet objects! Fingernails help protect our finger tips that have a lot of nerve endings. We also use them a a sort of tool. Try scratching an itch without nails….. I guess you can get a back scratcher. Which is a tool. I just want to tell a funny story. First the background: You talked about reading the Bible this year. I think that is great! I’m an atheist, my whole family, parents, sibling, Husband, are all strong atheists. I have read the Bible as literature. I have like two copies and I’m about to rebind the family copy that was my mother’s. Thanks for pointing out the contradictions and who wrote it! Yeah, the Old Testament is rough! Hahahaha! When I was a kid, I read the Chronicles of Narnia. I loved it! I read all 5 books in one week! The only book I hated , and I hate to this day, was book 5, The Last Battle. I had no idea why after going through the all the adventures and friendships, the Pevencies snuffed it in the end! It wasn’t until I was in my 20’s that I found out it was a Christian allegory for heaven, earth and Christ. I absolutely didn’t read it that way! Hahahahahaha! I hope you found that humorous. I was about 10 when I read Narnia. Back to the Church and science. Now today most Christians do accept the advances that science has given the world. I want to point out a Priest who came up with the idea of one of the gotchas that is trotted out by those who do not believe in the Big Bang! https://youtu.be/QZ9C2MC71GE?si=1q62MOxYxy7W3Ukh I noticed your pronunciation of astolabe was a bit off. It’s asto labe, long A, do not pronounce the e. 👍 just in case it comes up again. I absolutely loved this discussion and yes, I’m two episodes behind. I hope to catch up to the current episodes and I can’t wait to dive into the manga! Chaos is beautiful! Bonus video: https://youtu.be/Egnd5RpCT08?si=yHbjWpZ2otG2rk9C

Well, now I have to read the manga! Hahahaha! This is right up my alley.

It’s finally here! I’ve been so excited for you to reach Orb. I don’t have much to add haha. Love that white board-kun is out on the very first episode 😆 Also- OMG, yesss I have thought about it’s always sunny in Philadelphia when I saw the first episode too. This show talking about religion in that time period makes me curious how different the world would be had the Americas kept its own customs and faith & not brutally replaced. I didn’t expect you to talk about the scripture! I’ve read most of it and I honestly can’t understand why would someone take some of the chapters or books… literally. Like… there’s some contradictions here. I agree with you that it’s important to remember that the Bible was written by humans and PUT TOGETHER by humans. It’s made up of many books but not all. It was carefully selected after all. I’m faithful that there is a greater power but I refrain myself from engaging with the church- okay I’m getting off topic now haha. Anyhow, I do appreciate the kind of discussions Orb is making us ponder on. Can’t wait to catch up with you in the next discussion.

ORB It feels so surreal that we’re finally here!! About the modding, we’re both doing it equally, at least on paper. …In practice, I will probably delegate the majority of it to Gin after a while XDD (joking,,, or maybe not, who knowss :PPP ) This show hooked me with the first episode so quickly. I remember when I saw this for the first time, I was mildly intrigued by the synopsis & trailer and saw a few positive comments about it online. But nothing prepared me for what this ended up being. I was SO amazed by just how good the art style and animation were, and I remember audibly gasping with Gin when we heard Tsuda and Hayami (Hubert’s va) We were screaming like “WTF HE’S HERE???? WHY IS THERE SO MANY BIG VOICE ACTORS???” it was an experience and a half. The praise of the kid calling Rafal a “god” and then getting lectured for it felt really awkward and forced to me at first. I thought it was a way too forced. BUt then later on I kinda learned/realised that calling someone or something “kami” (god) is just a really common praise in Japanese. Like I see it constantly in JP comment sections, so I assume it was a scene that felt a lot smoother and natural for the japanese viewers. HOWEVER your interpretation of it being actually about deifying and not just a mindless praise given by some NPC is actually also really interesting and I gained some new insight into this!! This is why I like your analysis, you manage to find me some new perspectives and thoughts into things. XDD Some interesting tidbits about the shows japanese name. チ。-地球の運動について- (Chi. Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite) The interesting part here is チ which is katakana pronounced as Chi. And since it’s katakana and not Kanji it can basically mean any japanese words with the same pronunciation. And some of the more notable meanings are 地 (earth), 知 (wisdom) or 血 (blood). As well as many others. We can conclude that it mainly means “earth” as we can see from the shows logo. (The logo is shown at the start when narrators asks about obtaining the truth of the world and at the end when Hubert says “heliocentrism”) And in the logo there’s チ (chi) rotates by a small circle. But because of how japanese works and how the author specifically decided to go with the Katakana, *any* definition of “Chi” should be equally as correct. I can’t wait for more religious talks and discussions from you as well! I felt oddly validated by the commentary on how the bible shouldn’t be read literally word to word and instead interpreted depending on the context and all that, because it wasn’t written by a deity. It was written by humans and translated by humans and edited by humans, etcetera. I don’t really talk about religion much in real life and only do it online, but online I somehow end up talking about it with some... Extreme people. Be they against it or in for it, so I have heard talks about “not following all it says” from way too many angles from way too many people, and I start forgetting how rational and level-headed people think about it. I really wanted to study theology at some point, but eventually decided that I didn't want to work around it. (I wanted to be a priest but realised that it would be too much human interaction for me XDD) Maybe that’s why shows like this attract me like a moth to a flame. Cuz the moment the show opened up, even the smallest religious talks I got immediately invested. But anyways, enough lore drops about me, we’re here to talk about orb LOL I was immediately sold on Rafal as my MC. Like one EP, and he was my BABY. I have the weakest spot for genius, analytical, and somewhat arrogant kids. Like he’s kind of an asshole, calling others “fools” and “simpletons,” but I kinda can’t disagree either. Even in the real world, there are a lot of people who,,, would benefit from thinking a little more. !!! I am just sooo happy we're finally here. After over half a year of recruiting for everyone in the server to watch this, so that it would get recommended enough to get into the polls and then win a poll. I am feeling so emotional about this milestone. The moment I had time to step back and think about this show all I could think was “damn, I really want to see an analysis for this by Romania” And now I have it. Actually, I want to have this moment to thank you for your reactions in general, for they have brought me joy and insight. And not just the reactions, but for the community that came with it as well. I joined the Discord server back in spring 2021, and it has been over 4 years since I first joined there. And I have made irreplaceable memories there. Along with bringing me fun and joy, they have helped me with hard times in my life and given me precious friends. Without the server, I would have never met so many people, one of them even in real life, outside of the internet. And if that doesn’t explain what that place means to me, then I don’t know what would. So, thank you for the wonderful years in the past. I hope they will continue for years to come as well.
