Summer Days with Coo: Movie FULL LENGTH Reaction! PATREON COMMISSION!

Hahaha, light-hearted was just based on the poster, but I was woefully unprepared for the heartbreak and power of this movie! It was so cool getting Kappa lore in this! And yesssss, the information on that site was…enlightening. *sips tea* The story had a lot going on but it tied everything together really well! Ossan…UGH…his death rocked me - the adults doing NOTHING made me want to shake the computer (but it would have knocked my recording camera out soooo)! And his backstory?! That dog did not deserve that! UGH, I was broken too, with his death - I can’t say I’ll watch that scene, but the ending with Coo was hopeful enough I would watch THOSE scenes again, but I can’t take Ossan’s end. 🙁 Thank you for the comment and kind words! This was so fun and yeah, I needed to decompress with you all afterwards! Shimoyama did a great job with this commission; take care, too! 😀

This movie was SO STRESSFUL at times but at the same time - SO good! I love how the family wanted to love Coo, especially by the end, and support him! Ossan – yesss, damn that dog tugged my heart strings! I felt the “this is verbatim” was so needed, hahaha! But yes, that man that crawled to get Coo was a real one! It was amazing to see a message so clear, but not “preachy.” It was pretty on the nose and startlingly realistic, even if uncomfortable about it at times. So thank you! And yesssss, the adults not thinking the kids “understand” the trauma they’re going through, when they VERY MUCH do! And yes, the studio scene made me so angry - I almost was sitting on my hands because I was getting so agitated haha!! So many themes of resistance! Coo was a walking theme, honestly! It was so sad to see Coo leave the family, but I was so happy with the Kappa-adjacent he found to help him at the end and that he wanted to go back and see his family again at some point - a hopeful conclusion to a powerful story - I loved it! Thank you for the comment and kind words! Shimoyama picked a great one! 😀And oh yes, excited about As One!

*Stuffs face with ice cream* So… who said anything about light-hearted? HAHA- this was a fantastic movie & I enjoyed the direction we took with Kappas. I DO remember seeing some artwork about them but never knew the name. Thank you for showing and telling us additional details because I had no idea the cucumber & sumo thing was legit. Yokai.com sure has some interesting info agsjfjfjfjfj. There’s alot it takes on and I’m thrilled to see all the tie-in’s pay off. Coo and the Uehara family are such a sweet family & ofc… Ossan. Whyyyy did NO ONE DO ANYTHING. There’s nothing that irks me more than seeing other adults do nothing when something could STILL be done. A child’s being lost, a hit and run happening, someone struggling to move, etc etc. Ossan’s backstory in the car made me tear up. Sometimes people take out their pain on others. And sometimes they take it out on those that are dear to them. Seeing him taking his last breathes as he wonders if he had stayed BROKE me. He deserved the world! I won’t be revisiting this movie anytime soon. I’m emotionally spent omg. I still had an amazing time and I’m happy to have tuned in with you all. Thank you for the reaction and discussion. Definitely felt like a support group session almost 😂 I’m looking forward to the rest of the month. Thank you Shimoyama for this phenomenal commission. ❤️ Take care yall!

Loved the reaction and discussion! This was a really excellent watch-a-long! Definitely one of the more stressful opening scenes I have seen in a while. 😆 Various things I loved: The family ending up coming together to look after little Coo The idea of a ‘fantasy creature’ being simply accepted as 'existing’ (excluding the hysteria) Ossan and his attitude was everything 😭 All the ‘this is verbatim’ in the discussion 🤣 – thank you for these facts I did not need to know THE hero of this film to me – the man who crawls across the beam to gently and sweetly pick up Coo 🥰 Excellent discussion especially around the themes of environmental destruction and cultural memory/heritage. And love the fact that in the film this message isn’t abstract at all. Another really interesting layer to me was the great representation of the way adults often dismiss, minimise and ignore trauma which impacts children and younger people (Coo included and is very much an example of someone bereaved and displaced), due to a mistaken belief that children don’t understand and will just bounce back from whatever happened. Distress is so often terribly mishandled. The scene in the ‘studio’ made me so angry but it is actually a great example of this. Themes of resistance? Aplenty! 😂 Especially in Koichi’s defiance and then Coo’s decision to leave. Coo reclaiming his own path, leaving the comfort of Koichi’s willingness to protect them. And ultimately, the sad truth that sometimes 'resistance' means... needing to walk away in order to survive. Thank you to Shimoyama for another amazing commission! 🥰 Looking forward to next week! 💚
