Moonlit Winter (2019): Movie FULL LENGTH Reaction! PATREON COMMISSION!

*MOONLIT HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

I had no clue walking into this film what it was and was so pleasantly surprised, so I will keep this as spoiler-free as I can - but what a great movie! The atmosphere was perfect to beat the summer heat and I had a smile plastered on my face throughout this film, even through the more somber moments!

Thank you to Sunspots for recommending a fantastic movie to round out the month of commissions!

Moonlit Winter (2019): Movie FULL LENGTH Reaction! PATREON COMMISSION!

Comments

Oohhhh, I would love the snow…for a day…hahaha, and then I’d want to go back - I don’t like being cold, so the image of them huddling around that heater was making ME cold! And yes, all these complicated women…and then there’s the boyfriend, haha! I think it was a great choice after This Corner of the World in that regard - sometimes, the stars align that way! 😀The whimsy with parts of the cast was good levity for the more heavy parts, but also all the mystery! This movie floored me once I realized what it was doing! 😀 That’s such a good point about how the removal of an “obstacle” not only warranting grief, but that fear of uncertainty - you can move forward now, sure, but then what? I loved how delicately this movie handled all of those themes and with such realism, too. And along with The Summer, this dealt with those relationships so expertly and in such a relatable way! I love that The Summer is about the break up and Moonlit Winter is about the new beginning! <3 Not that you chose those with that intention or anything…hahaha! So many layers of resistance between the mother and daughter especially - ESPECIALLY Yunhee! Thank you for the kind words and comment! Haha, I’m all here for Middle-Aged Yuri! 😛We definitely need more of that! And yes, I haven’t gotten around to watching the August Commissions yet (usually the weekend is reserved for that since they’re longer) but I’m so excited!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the film! So happy to know more people checked it out and enjoyed the ride. Hana Kino played Auntie Masako and she's very prolific! If you were interested in a bit more GL there's also The Summer from June's commissions! 🥰

Themes of resistance continues with this commission and we get secret yuri?! I haven’t seen all that much GL content so this was so lovely & sweet. I love the set and use of music throughout the whole film. I don’t have much more to add since I rambled on the channel already but this hit in ways I wasn’t expecting. I’m glad that we got a happy ending cause lord knows how much work is out there where the ending for queer works is heartbreaking. This one leaves us very hopeful and bright. I feel like I’ve seen the actress for auntie Masako before but I can’t remember where. I’ll have to look that up soon. So yeah some of the things I related was being set up with people because of family members. Fortunately, I was never pressured more than just going on a date. Yunhee went as far as having a child with someone her brother fixed her up with. Luckily my family has stopped trying to set me up. It only happened a few times but it was uncomfortable to decline because I never really told them I was wasn’t interested. They just know I decided not to date at all. I don’t feel compelled to see anyone not unhappy being alone. If anything I’ve never felt more content in a long time. I do wanna have a family someday but my nieces and nephew remind me I’m probably fine without haha. I can always return them ajajdjfjffjf. So about the route we went with the love story.. I 100% agree. We went with a realistic route and I couldn’t have been more happy cause it wouldn’t “work out” right away. They also live pretty far away from each other. They can’t just abandoned everything. 😔 Btw that’s so sad to hear about the two kids who had only one of their sons supported. It’s crazy to think that even today and age that parents enstranged their relationship with their kids because of who they love. I pray they find not only support overall but also peace because I can’t imagine having a parent not accepting who their kids are. My mother was the first to know about my sexuality and she cried for me. She apologized for ever making me feel I wasn’t safe enough to talk to her. And that… was a critical moment that helped us overcome (and become closer) so much pain and estranged moments between us. There’s so much representation with the visuals in this movie! Glad you enjoyed this movie as I do. Thank you so much for the reaction and discussion! I can’t wait to see what’s next. (Well.. I know but I have to catch up to see it haha.) Have a nice one yall ❤️

Loved the reaction and discussion! Yes, this was entirely needed for the height of summer! I dream of going to a place with that much snow, especially right now. 😆 What I love most of all are all of these beautifully complicated women all in one film (and this actually worked out really nicely to watch right after In This Corner of the World). 🥰 I also love the mystery element and how slowly the different relationship dynamics are revealed. There’s also a fair bit of this kind of gentle whimsy – especially with Saebom and Auntie Masako and the shenanigans they get up to. 🤣 It covers some difficult subjects with such tenderness. I think there’s also a layer of something that’s very hard in families – where a death brings grief but is also the removal of an obstacle. Or in some ways necessitates having to take steps forward. One of the main things I love about this and The Summer is how the primary romantic relationship is looked at in its totality in terms of the people involved – they are fully characterised with lives, interpersonal relationships, own interests, etcetc. The Summer is a bittersweet parting, and Moonlit Winter the promise of a new start. Themes of resistance? 😆 Again many layers and presented so quietly. I think most well represented in Yunhee’s journey to Otaru and her reasserting her autonomy – with her job, with her brother, with her past experiences. And then Saebom and Auntie Masako pushing the two together! Perhaps against what would be expected in this kind of narrative. Thank you for another amazing reaction and discussion! 🥰 We get plenty “Old Man Yaoi” and it was time for another side! 😆 Cannot wait for everything coming up in August! 💙
