The Apothecary Diaries Season 2: Episode 19 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*FESTIVE HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

What I thought was going to be a simple episode of MaoMao's hostage situation in the "Fox Village" turns into MUCH more -- as we have some startling insight into Shisui, Suirei and MaoMao bonding over poisons, and a scary new character introduced that I do NOT get good vibes from at all... MaoMao, you may be in danger, girl!

The Apothecary Diaries Season 2: Episode 19 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! What an episode! That’s a very fair comparison with Shisui and MaoMao for sure! Gotta love a contrast, especially with characters as tied together as these two! And poor MaoMao, the frogs are haunting her! Yes, glad someone else sees the Wicker Man vibes! And I can see the tie to Tsurune as well! This was SUCH a cruel cliffhanger, but I’m excited to be back this coming week with the new episodes! 😀Thank you for the comment!

Finally had some time to watch your reaction to this episode, and it was so good! Agree with you that Maomao's side bun is really cute but it does seem a bit impractical. However the impractical nature of the hairstyle is a good way to show the difference between Maomao and Shisui. Maomao has always been very sensible when it comes to things like her hair, make-up and clothes. She wears practical clothes and her hair in a way that is suited to her work. Even the make-up (fake freckles) she wears to conceal her looks she is very pragmatic about wearing; the make-up is a form of protection and helps her feel safer. Shisui, on the other hand, even in her servant persona in the Imperial Palace wore her hair in a somewhat more extravagant manner than how most others did. You gotta love the continued appearance of frogs 😂 For everyone else they won't understand Maomao's reaction, but we the audience are fully aware of the double meaning frogs can hold. The tower of fox masks really does give similar vibes to The Wicker Man (though I've only seen the Nicolas Cage version once, but I have watched the original 1973 version several times). I gotta say the ritualistic aspect of lighting the arrow and firing it did make me think of Tsurune...just the archer keeps his shitagi (the shirt worn) completely on, unlike with Masa and our boys 😆 This anime really does such a good job with the tone shifts. But, like you said in the beginning, it's really good at highlighting the darker aspects in regards to punishments of the time without showing you such things. I think they do a good job of making it hit hard enough about the danger and darker side of this time period, without showing gore or pain just for the sake of it. It's definitely quite the balancing act, but this anime definitely shows that it can be done. Such a mean place to end the episode! Definitely leaves you on tenterhooks for the next episode.

Hahaha, honestly, maybe MaoMao’s personality will get her through the Saw traps from that series! But yes, she’s holding her own and I’m proud of her! Yeah, I hate it with the OP since the first cour was not that bad at all! Good news, with Episode 21, I’ve been told I can start watching the OP! So I at least get it for four episodes! Making the hairpin such an item that isn’t just for Jinshi and MaoMao’s romance developing but to also be used as a plot device? We are here for it! I love that about this series! AHAHAHA RIGHT with Blue Lock?! It’s soooo convenient (I love it)! I am so glad you’ve enjoyed the reaction and discussions; that means so much! And yes, I am curious how Jinshi is going to be when he finally - hopefully *nervous laugh* - gets to MaoMao! I just love it and cannot wait for these final five episodes! <3

Could you just imagine Maomao in 2002's Panic Room, haha she is just the most cooperative hostage ever - she'd just be like here's the password to the vault, take whatever you'd like, can I help carry that for you? It's really no trouble at all! The amount of importance built up this episode around the hairpin, who would have ever thought! It went from just being used to tease Jinshi with to now being one of our main flags going forward! And so many possibilities, I didn't expect the Godfather possibility!! Haha! The whole conversation with Shisui and Maomao about selling the hairpin or having it stolen was high tension, no Maomao, just no! Maybe you think you realize you can't give it away, but it's still cruel to weigh it so lightly in conversation. I miss listening to the OP every episode like in the first season, it's too bad when shows just fill the OP with spoilers! :( I think the vast majority of people do watch the OP/ED at least once with its initial appearance, so that could definitely make it trickier to avoid spoilers when we've all seen it! Finally finishing up with your Blue Lock reactions (is it really a coincidence that Blue Lock uses "BL" for its title words?) and seeing you watch the S2 OP after the final episode of S2 finished because the OP gave away the entire show, yeah, I'm not a fan of OPs that do that! Enjoyed the reaction and discussion, always listen to them in their entirety, especially the discussion! I agree it would be interesting to see Jinshi officially bring up Maomao saving his life at some point again when things settle down, and yes - this show has been incredible with pulling all the little details/red herrings back into the limelight and piecing them all together later on! I'm excited for the final five episodes!

Biologically, there isn't really any difference between a grasshopper and a locust. Locust is just the name for grasshoppers which are exhibiting swarming behavior. Not all species of grasshoppers do that though, so some types of grasshoppers won't ever be locusts.
