This episode grabbed me, shook me, and awoke the shipping cells within my body! Chihaya is my GIRL and I relate and love her so much and this episode she goes through quite a lot of emotions and experiences - as our team of 5 karuta players have assembled - but is she too focused to miss a special event happening for her?
And Taichi...oh...I might have just converted to #teamtaichi y'all....

I LOVED this episode so much!! I agree, Chihaya and Taichi are such a good time and I love the dynamic the show is creating with them! I do agree that I’m not sure if entering the tournament THAT early will pay off how she wants it to, if it’ll be a Haikyuu (season 1) situation…but I guess we’ll see! Hahah!! Oohhh, that’s a great point about the older brother/younger sister vibes between Chihaya and Taichi…but with POSSIBLE SHIPPING! Hahaha! I really appreciate that Chihaya when she figures things out, she works to remedy them, as well! That’s a great note to make! And ooohh, that note about the family and the birthday; I had not thought of it that way - that’s really interesting to point out as well! I had not thought about that but hopefully they celebrated with her that next day! Or at least called! FLIRTY. Taichi with that spoon was FLIRTACIOUSSSSSS. He was setting his foot down that he is in it to win it…at least towards Chihaya’s heart! I want to root for him so badly! I also love how Chihaya is conventionally “pretty” but she balances having a feminine stereotypical look with her incorporating more gender neutral aspects as well. Seeing the different ways that Taichi and Chihaya compliment each other is so much fun. They really do make a good team, pushing the other to look beyond their comfort zone and keeping each other in check. They're definitely going to make the team go far. As much as Chihaya's passion is amazing, I do think that trying to enter a tournament that will happen in 3 weeks is a tiny bit hasty. Yet again, I have no clue of how the Karuta world works, so if that is the only tournament for a little while they *definitely* need to get into it and give it their best. Taichi having a little sister is something that I find so interesting. He struck me as an only child but, honestly, I can see him being an older brother. And the way her acts contrasting Chihaya, who is a younger sister herself, seems very fitting. Something I really appreciate about Chihaya is how even though she can keep her head in the clouds a lot, whenever she stops and thinks about things more carefully, and if she realizes that she is in the wrong she won't be aloof and will actually IMMEDIATELY try to remedy it. That's very commendable. She's very passionate, but she's kind above all else. I think Chihaya forgetting her own birthday speaks of how little her family pays attention to her - as we sort of see when Chihaya wins that first Karuta school tournament against Taichi as children and her family barely paying attention to her because they were paying more attention to her older sister. Though that might be a bit unfair to say, as it seems that they celebrated her birthday atmifnight (based on Kano having an alarm to wake her up to go to the park); and maybe her family did something later on that day for her. I simply don't have enough information about her parents at the moment, though I am very intrigued to know what kind of relationsip they have. That moment with the spoon and Taichi eating Chihaya's last bite of crust right in front of her face was... so freaking flirty XD I gasped when I saw him do that, and had to stop for a second because it was a very effective move. I can't believe none of the others saw it *lol* Oh, that paired with Taichi saying that Karuta will always be fun as long as she has a smile on her face while playing it... yeah, he was in his game in this episode. Something that I've meant to mention for a long while but just haven't had the time to, is how I love how Chihaya defies the more femenine stereotypes with little things, like her having the shorter hair as a kid. Something that can be seen with her wearing a normal tie with her uniform contrary to how all the girls seem to wear this cute little ribbon/bow tie with their uniforms, it's boys who wear normal ties with their uniforms. I don't know, it's a small detail I've noticed and that I love.
