Just like in Naruto, Free Will and Determinism (destiny), from the point of view of compatibility, are not mutually exclusive.

And the main characters are so cliche and annoying, hanje is a simp, Usop is annoying as hell, Naruto has great character development..plus its just got more swag. 2024-08-20 05:01:00 +0000 UTCHonestly now that I think about it ...it wasn't even Naruto that changed the world..it was actually Nagato.. he legit went thru the worst then put the leaf through the worst pain like his.. but then he only did that to teach people what he felt..then at the end he made the choice to save the people of the leaf because of Jiraiya and Yahiko.. he legit was the bigger man.. all this time I thought he was just out for revenge and that's justified but as Jiraiyas student it sat wrong with me.. but he legit made the leaf feel his pain and then saved it.. him doing that actually broke the cycle of hatred..it wasn't Naruto.

2024-08-19 00:43:21 +0000 UTCOriginally I didn't like that this happened this way when I read the manga precisely twelve year ago as a senior in high school, but as an adult now, I realize and understand that words can cut deeper than any jutsu ever could. Not to mention that this decision by Nagato to use Rinne Rebirth is one of the key moments of the entire narrative of the rest of the show and we wouldn't know why until much, much later.

2024-08-18 03:46:44 +0000 UTCThis Talk No Jutsu just makes sense. Throughout this entire arc we have seen 3 (now 4) different people imagine them as the character in Jiraiya’s first novel. And then to learn that it was Nagato who provided him the inspiration to write it is just a chef’s kiss. You can see how conflicted Nagato is right when he hears that Jiraiya literally honored him in his book. It makes sense as Nagato only probably saw the first draft of the book, so never saw the notes at the end. I mean how can you not be conflicted. To hear that your sensei said you really did mean a a ton to them after you killed them just a few weeks ago must be rough on your conscience. This arc was peak Naruto. I still love everything else, but the writing in this arc was just great.

Nagato could have used his destiny for positive change and hope but his choices led him to sink into darkness and use his position to exact revenge. But I also think that in the end, Nagato's choice to believe in Naruto may have been destined. Luckily Nagato chose to take the hopeful path.

Even if something is fated to happen, how you get there is your choice. The person you are at the end determines the outcome of your fate. Nagato wasn't weak to start his war against the nations. When the other nations ignored their plight, it became self preservation. Nagato's will to not give up saw war as the only way forward... And as we've seen, there was no other choice or else we wouldn't see the rain village at all. Both sides must make amends. That's why war continues. Unless you share similar outlooks with your enemy, there is nothing to agree to. When Nagato and Naruto met, they didn't allow their pain to dictate their desired future. This happened only because they could see eye to eye. This is something Naruto needed to learn if he wants to help Sasuke.

He didn't have to remain an underdog, but making him a child of prophecy takes away from his character, because it takes the focus off of who he is and shifts it towards what he is. A core part of Naruto is his endurance and unwavering belief. The fact that he was always meant to be that way diminishes the importance of choice which cheapens the lesson the story is trying to teach.

It turns a grounded underdog into basically JESUS, which made his character less interesting to me. It also introduces talk no jutsu, which is a lazy way of resolving fights. Don't get me wrong. I do really like this show. There are just certain aspects of it I thought could have been done better.

Pain killing Jiraiya, destrying the village, asking Naruto about to bring forth peace, explaining his backstory, and awaiting Naruto's response were all him testing Naruto. To see if Naruto would turn out like he did. But Naruto's decision to not kill has proven him in Nagato's eyes, someone who has broken the cycle of hatred and is now the true Child of the Prophecy.

If Pain would had fallow the path without letting his pain take a hold on him he would had become the child of prophecy, there for, Naruto who is the one who never allow himself to be corrupted by war and pain and continue the road he became the child of prophecy fulfilling what the Master sage foresaw.

And I do love how Naruto’s ninja way isn’t what it is…it does evolve while maintaining the same path. That development I’ve always liked. Baris to your question, I think it is free will. We are all led to believe (and even Jiraiya) that Nagato is the legit child of prophecy…without fully knowing the history of his life (that we find about later on). And the pain he suffered and decisions he made in his eyes were right and justified. He was the change that was foretold in his own way despite that way being warped. Besides the point of being plot amor, I think it’s like a good coincidence and series of events that puts Naruto at the same place. Jiraiya never imagined that Naruto would be the child of prophecy. He started teaching him because of his personal connection and love, and then seeing his unwavering determination started hoping that he instead would be it. At least those are my thoughts
