Naruto Shippuden Reaction Ep. 165

Comments

its so easy to hate "the bad guy" because he just is... and it makes it easier to root against him until you realize that they got dealt the bad end of the stick which makes you come to the realization that .. "the bad guy" if he was put in the right circumstances he as well could of been a good guy

josue diaz

Loved the discussion guys. It’s so beautiful how deeply thought out these characters are.

Naruto Uzumaki

Naruto getting a lesson in real-world problems isn't something new. In the 1st arc of Naruto OG, Zabuza gives Naruto his first real-world problem (ninjas are mere tools). Naruto can, not just learn life lessons from friends but foes as well. He took that info and developed his own ninja philosophy. Unlike most people (in the Naruto universe as well as the real world), he is not so set in his ways so as not to be able to adjust his worldview once he is exposed to new info, regardless of where that info comes from.

Kiki JD

From a story point of view, Naruto needed to experience pain/loss as a way for him to better understand the pain/loss others have felt (Sasuke for example). As far as Sasuke and Pain using acts of violence by murdering innocent people to achieve their goals, it makes them no better than those who caused them pain in the first place.

Kiki JD

SHOCK ALERT! for the next couple of episodes. Tissue at the ready!

Kiki JD

Right and moral motivation, wrong and immoral solution. Imposing your ideals by murdering people makes you no better than those who inflicted pain in the first place. And Pain himself admits that his plan is not a permanent solution. His plan murders countless innocent people and creates countless orphans just so some people can live "peacefully" for a while. Sounds a lot like the old saying, "Throwing out the baby with the bathwater". This means to remove something good in the bid to get rid of something bad. But I do think that Naruto's ability to gain valuable lessons from friends and foes is what is important to take away from his conversation with Pain. We should all aspire to this.

Kiki JD

Saskae is also similar to Pain in that he experienced loss that Naruto nor the other characters could comprehend. Pain actually helped in a crazy way because him destroying the village and killing Jiryaya and Kakashi made Naruto and the other characters experience something tragic, and likely helped Naruto understand Saskae a bit more, which was what Pain wanted anyway. For people to experience the same pain so that they can better understand one another. Saskae is a part of that cycle of hatred too. And don't forget he wanted to do the same thing to the village too lmao

The next two are gonna be craayyzzaaaayyyyyy 🦊🦊

What an episode! One of the greatest of this arc, and the series. First off, Baris thank you and bless you for these uploads with some of them being early! Dude this episode was crazy! Love Madison’s reactions especially to the reveal. Just wait until she finds out that Pain/Nagato’s ideals weren’t really his but Yahiko’s - and even then a warped version. And wait until she finds out the HOW & WHY!!! UFFF! Baris a podcast/panel would be 🔥🔥🔥🔥 lol! 🌚👀 But this episode is awesome because like someone above said it, Naruto has been living somewhat naive thinking things can simply happen black and white. He’s gotten lost at certain points especially with the Sasuke situation, and you see he struggles with that. Him being questioned and challenged instead of him doing the questioning, challenging, and talking is top tier imo! To a degree, when it comes to the episode, I can’t say that Pain is wrong in what he’s done honestly. Such a great platform for dialogue 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

Helder Romero

😂😂

Helder Romero

Agreed! I love the roles flipped and now he was questioned! *chefs kiss*

Helder Romero

Personally, I don't think I could ever root for someone who wants to achieve his goal by using pain and terror.

Kiki JD

I love how willing Naruto is to learn not just from his allies but also from his enemies as well. I think this is what makes him so different from others and also makes his moral character stronger.

Kiki JD

I love how Troy Baker changes his voice just enough from his rendering of Yamato to make the two characters sound like different people. His Pain version is my third favorite voice in all of Naruto followed by Itachi then Madera.

Kiki JD

Nagato has a great grasp of the real world but his solution is to become just like those he despises. How many innocent people has he killed? How many children has he just made orphans? How many more innocent people will he kill and how many more orphans will he produce if his plan succeeds? Right motivation, wrong solution. Better no solution than a solution that creates so much suffering. Why? Just so some get momentary peace? What about those killed who never get that chance?

Kiki JD

Nagatos speech really makes you think. His speech can be applied to real life as well. Absolutely amazing arc and my favorite arc in the series. Truly peak Naruto.

Ninja4christ117

Gonna need tissues myself man.

Ninja4christ117

naruto wish he was Goku nowhere near

marrio

That's a good point. The villians in this show work well because they fit the narrative and overall themes of it. Deep and philosophical themes should have complex villians. Conversely, I don't think naruto villians would work as much in a story like dbz which has a more simpler narrative. Black and white villians like Frieza work better in that show.

NARIOUS DIXON

Yup and also people make jokes about and laugh about each others infirmities and think it’s ok and say I was only just joking and you have to be ok with it or your labeled soft or sensitive

GLISH

Up until this point of the story Naruto has managed to challenge people's worldview and philosophy based on his own experiences... but Pain is different. After explaining everything he asks Naruto how would he do it, and the idealistic knucklehead kid doesn't have an answer...

Marcus Ballantyne

Nagato is voiced by Vic (he also did young Obito) the same dude who is the best voice for Broly

Morokei

Troy Baker as Tendo Pain is absolutely godlike. Also, this is Naruto's ssj moment

Morokei

There will never be peace in the real world. Human beings are simply too toxic and selfish for that to ever be a reality. The only true way to achieve this would be to address the issue from the root cause which stems from families and relationships. You think people grow up to be criminals? No. They are conditioned to be that way because of exposure to toxic families/environment. How do you ever expect to settle down and have a peaceful life with a partner when all women are superficial and hedonistic only wanting the top 10% men and will easily throw you away for a one night stand with someone else? You think misogynistic incels are born? No they were conditioned to be that way. There will never be peace in this vile world whether from a war perspective, or relationship perspective, or any other perspective for that matter.

Pain to Madison: Do you hate me now? My pain is far greater than yours!!!

P T

What I like most about the antagonists in Naruto is that they are not black and white evil villains. They are in some way, broken heroes and dark reflections of the main protagonist who are rigorously attempting to bring forth true peace. Their ideals can be applied to the real world and that is what makes them so relatable.

P T

Loved the post episode discussion!Your insight on what Pain was trying to comprehend surprised me. In a escene, Tendo Pain/Yahiko and Naruto really are two sides of the same coin . Both had training under the same masters and wanted to be respected leaders within their own village. They had similar personalities. They also inspired others with their words and actions. I mean just look at their design. Both have the same haircut along with a headband covering their forehead. But what makes them different are their philosophies in life. Both took the pain in their lives (pun intended) and focused it on trying to create a world filled with peace. Pain has made a plan to bringing peace, believing mass destruction along with total fear and control is the only way to bring peace. Although at this point of the story, Naruto doesn’t have an answer to Pain’s philosophy. He’s basically been winging it, running around with the naive sense that peace will just happen. Rly gets the brain thinking and establishes that the world of shinobi isn’t black and white. Love this arc man…

*Veem*

Had we followed the story from Pain/Nagato's perspective, we would be rooting for him as the hero, not Naruto.

P T

Prolly the greatest moment in Naruto honestly next to finding out Itachi was a hero ... hearing him say these words literally changed me as a person IRL ... I think about what he said and what Jiraya said all the time in relation to the real world ... and you can see what pain said in our reality even today ESPECIALLY nowadays its gotten worse and worse ... it had a negative and a positive impact on me ... negative because I see how the world is the evil and the hatred and the wars and how races hate one another and it has made me hate life and how things are ... but it also had a positive impact because it changed the evil within me I caused pain without regard at a time and felt no remorse in doing so ... and I regret it often and reflect on it often. It made me into a good person who don't like to cause harm but it also made me unrelatable to the rest of humanity as most people never think that deeply about things like this and they go on with their lives without ever caring about others suffering, it allows them to stay ignorant to it. Since then I have struggled to create bonds or relationships with people ... My sadness due to this revelation was so strong that it feels akin to a family member dying or a true love ... so ya those are some very powerful words indeed ... without me going too much further into it. Cant wait to here the podcast to hear Madison and your thoughts on it.
