My guess as to why they did not open the gates, is because they stated the clones have the same abilities as them. So you could assume that they also can open the gates, they just didn't because neither Guy nor Lee opened them. Just my head canon.

That literally makes no logical sense. And there were too many reused clips of animations. You can tell the budget was really low for this one.
