Granted he is perfectly able to do the ritual himself since he is usually the one to summon the gedo statue, but it would take a long time. They don't directly effect the ritual, however each members ring placement is also where they stand on the gedo hands.

The gedo statue is a rinnegan summon from pain and to seal or unseal tailed beasts you don't need special objects. Madara simply grabs them all later on. What the rings do is simple, they tell the akatsuki member of their position in the fingers and also i think i heard that the rings do the hologram thing.

2023-11-11 04:36:22 +0000 UTCThe symbols in the ritual are the symbols in the rings each of the members wear. The Japanese dub with English sub gives the name of each, shame the English dub doesn't. Itachi is Crimson Sasori is Jewel Kisame is South Konan is White Pain is Zero Orochimaru was Sky (or Void) Deidara is Blue Hidan is Three Kakuzu is North Finally, Zetsu is Boar. The rings are used to help power the ritual, which is part of the reason why Kisame brought up the fact that it could take longer without Orochimaru, since Orochimaru took his ring with him when he left.
