Also, nobody could see the fox chakra besides Neji and Sarutobi, so at no point did it look like Naruto was going to win until the moment he did.

2023-07-07 15:52:18 +0000 UTCNaruto giving his speech about why he couldnt master the clone jutsu was a jab at neji always preaching that you cant change your destiny or do things you believe you can just by simply trying naruto proved that with hard work and determination a ‘failure’ can do something thats seems impossible. And to drive it home naruto uses neji as the the example ‘even you can to because unlike me youre not a failure’ telling neji that if he were to abandon his way of thinking he could easily defy destiny and become stronger.

But some points. 1.The fingernails aren't cracked from the punch, they are cracked from digging through the ground with bare hands. 2. Neji wasn't in his mind with his Byakugan or something it was just him remembering what he said to Naruto. 3.Naruto failed at the simple 'Clone Jutsu', the 'Shadow Clone Jutsu' or 'Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu' like they called it in the scroll in episode 1, is a secret jutsu from Konoha and not a forbidden jutsu. 'Shadow Clone Jutsu' is more like the elemental Clones like the 'Water Clone Jutsu' that Zabusa was using. And by the way I really hope you two are alright after what happened to you and your apartment the other day.

2023-07-06 21:46:21 +0000 UTCLittle tidbit, when they were clashing you can see neji and naruto's feet hit the ground. Naruto doesn't have close to perfect Chakra control and thats shown by how powerfully he stabilized himself when moving backwards and forwards. Its rough and uncontrolled compared to Neji which is honed and potent. Thats a testament to how much the Nine Tails pushed him forwards and how Naruto is struggling to adapt to the power he has right now. You'll see more of those little tidbits as the series progresses.
