Earlier in this episode he told Alaric that it’s time for him and Elijah to officially meet. Damon was trying to asses the situation to determine when and how he could make a move against Elijah. Damon rilled up Elijah on purpose to get him to attack him so he could see how much stronger he actually is and if there is any possibility for him to beat him, he wanted to asses his strength so he could come up with a proper plan to kill him. He knew that he was risking his life but he also knew if Elijah was the man of honour as he claimed to be, he wouldn’t kill him to keep his words to Elena and as intuitive as he is, he senses that this might be true about him so he took the risk to see it for himself how powerful he is and he realised that he needs to be really careful and probably use the elements of surprise so he could get a upper hand on him and kill him but it’s definitely not gonna be easy. “He’s gonna be hard to kill”, he did all of that to asses the situation, he wanted to be strategic before he made any move against him with the dagger. Damon learned his lessons with what happened with Mason, he needs to be completely sure that the dagger is not another myth that was made up by the Originals themselves and it’s gonna work.

All his co-called friends either helped plot or at least knew and kept it from him that Damon killed Mason. At that point, he doesn't actually owe them anything. So I'm not surprised he chose to leave with Jules, another werewolf, over those who lied to him. And even then, once he learned the truth he still chose the ppl that lied to him. I feel like that says a lot I look at it this way -- would they have helped or even allowed Damon to kill Jenna or Liz if they were the threat working with Kathrine instead of Mason? Absolutely not! But they dont really give a damn about Tyler so it was open season on Mason cuz he's not really apart of the core group

It shows how selfless and compassionate she is for her loved ones. But at the same time, It is also sad that she is willing to get killed since she is still so young.

The way they think, and act are very realistic, Caroline not knowing what to do about Matt and Tyler, then Tyler not knowing who to trust was so well done. Michael Trevino is such an underrated actor can't wait for you to see more of him. Elijah being Elijah lol gotta love him! Stelena still thriving and Damon tryna challenge an Original like sir READ THE ROOM
