Update: Coming Back
Added 2025-08-07 08:18:00 +0000 UTCOkay, so it's been a month, give or take twelve hours. That means that it's about time for billing to turn back on and chapters to start to start appearing again on here again. But, I'm sure you're all wondering just what I've been up to in my down time.
Well, for starters, I went to LitRPG Con in Denver. I got to meet a lot of people on my wish list of authors and narrators. A small list of of the authors I met or met again that you might have heard of includes Matt Dinnaman (Dungeon Crawler Carl, who I got to sign a book for me because even relatively successful authors fanboy sometimes), David North (Guardian of Aster Fall), Sean Dunning (Super Genetics), Nicoli Gonnella (Unbound), Jay Krause (Will of the Immortals), Benjamin Kerei (The Vampire Vincent), and Brian Nordon (Quest Academy). Brian Nordon was hilarious, as usual. If you ever get a chance to meet him, you should. Sean Dunning is a super-nice guy, and he writes fun books. You should check them out if you like LitRPG. Caveat: This is a very truncated list. There were tons of great writers there.
I also got a chance to meet some amazing narrators, some that I knew about already and some that I met for the first time. I met Dan Wisniewski, who narrates a bunch of great series including some of the ones noted above. I like him, even if he does dress way better than me. I bumped into Andrea Parsneau, briefly, who is probably best known for narrating The Wandering Inn. I got to meet Heath Miller, who narrates He Who Fights With Monsters and Heretical Fishing. I also met Justin Thomas James, who is part of the Soundbooth Theater crew and helps narrate a series called Riftside. He does a great job.
All in all, the convention was really fun and well run. There was great turnout, and I'm definitely planning on going again next year if at all possible.
While in Denver, I ate a bison steak at the Appaloosa Grill because, well, it was available, and I was curious. Turns out, it tastes like chicken. No. I'm kidding. It tastes a lot like beef. Not exactly the same flavor profile, but it's pretty close. I also got to eat some amazing Italian food at Maggiano's Little Italy restaurant. I had the Blackened Salmon with Crispy Calabrian Shrimp, and it was awesome! If you get a chance to go to either place for a meal someday, you should do it.
While I was there, I also got to meet the people who will be doing the Korean translation for Unintended Cultivator, Volume One. They were amazingly nice people. Also, for anyone who cares, I will be trying to learn enough Korean over the next five or six months to stumble my way through a few promotional messages that will probably only ever see the light of day on South Korean social media.
My Goal: master the language enough so that I'm not actively offensive to an entire country. I don't want an entire country mad at me. So, I'm pretty motivated. I expect a private tutor will be involved.
On the writing front, I didn't get close to as much done as I wanted to. I ended up sleeping a lot the first week or so. Then I was in Denver or traveling for a week. So, not much writing there. Then I got back and within a couple days, I pulled something in my back. Once that resolved itself and I slept off the bonus migraines, I basically lost another week.
I did manage to wrap up the copy edit review I needed to get done. I did some work on the cultivation/scifi novella I've been working on. I did a little (very little) work on Isekai Terry book 2. Then, my brain latched onto a new thing and would not freaking let it go. So, you'll probably get 8,000-10,000 words of that in the next few days. Sometimes, I just need to write on these ideas until my imagination loosens its grip enough that I can go back and work on other stuff. Anyway, I'm not sure if there's going to be a new Unintended Cultivator chapter later today (the 7th). I'm planning to work on it, but it might take me a day to find my groove again. There will, however be at least one chapter by tomorrow (the 8th).
I do, however, still need to actively work on Isekai Terry book 2 and finish it. There are people waiting for it. So, it looks like my days will be a bit more hectic over the next week or two.
There will also be DragonCon at the end of the month. I'm hoping that won't disrupt things too much. I'm going to try to work ahead a little bit so that I can at least schedule chapters for the days I'll be out of town. We'll see how that works out once we get a bit closer.
I think that's all the big stuff, and welcome back to the circus! There will be monkeys!
No. That's a lie. There will be no monkeys.
